Some professional people have said, ‘At this time, trendy Dramas will become famous last month. The Internet has escalated the popularity of the Drama. Drama writers are beginning to make changes to the story for viewers as they request. Although these types of changes do not give positives and affective story lines, they show the trends of watchers.

The Korean Drama mania seems to big for amateur trend watchers. This is a positive and negative. In times past, Dramas were the monopoly of the Korean married woman, but now dramas are a place of cultural content. So, two months ago the Corean Drama Association (CODA) started, and already the Corp of Drama is in operation on and off line.

Korean dramas strongest point is that it knows the Korean people’s emotion, so these story lines are exciting. Many Eastern countries are interested in these dramas, because the Korean drama has become vogue. Therefore, Korea has launched a Drama Association, this group is the unification of various authorities concerned in an effort to form a better telecast culture.

A month ago, Hawaii University held a scholarship conference, and the subject was ‘Korean Drama in a Global Popular Culture’. This conference was brought together by academics, which are in favor of the Korean Drama from Hawaii, Japan, China and America for a center of Koreanology. Television stations, KBFD-TV, KBS, K-drama with Hawaii and 12 other groups are now formed under a union management.

The scholars’ participate in a panel that pointed out reasons why Korean dramas are popular. The first is most drama story lines are a purest love story. Second is that the story lines are simple and clear, so drama viewers can easily go deep into the dramas story line. The third reason is the language of beautiful love that expresses a prominent figure of a hero, a perfect image of a character of an animated cartoon.

Another thing is the Dramas’ happy conclusions, and the nexus between industry and drama. We can see a TV whenever we want, and have DMB (Digital multi media broadcasting) with a Cell phone or other wireless machine, though many people ridicule this news, because the matters of drama are naked to us, so we are concentrated the negative point of the drama. This is the news that the first Seoul Drama Awards (SDA) will be organized by the Korean Broadcasters Associations (KBA) and sponsored by the nation’s major broadcasters. The event carries significance in that there has never been an international television program awards ceremony in the nation, although Korean soap operas have gained popularity as part of ``Hallyu,’’ or Korean wave, pop frenzy in Asia.

``The event is designed to introduce foreign dramas airing in other countries and promote Korean dramas worldwide. It promises to become a world–renowned event embracing not only Asian countries but also the United States and European countries,’’ one of the organizers said.

A total of 105 dramas from 29 countries will compete for the awards. ``My Lovely Sam-soon’’ aired by MBC is nominated in the best actor category and the best miniseries. ``Emperor of the Ocean’’ (Haesin), which portrayed the life of the heroic sea trader Changpogo in the unified Silla Kingdom era in the mid-800s, is also nominated in the best actor and best epic drama categories. Foreign dramas such as ``Desperate Housewives’’ from the United States, ``Melanoma My Love’’ from Israel and Russia’s ``The Penal Battalion’’ will also be competing for awards.

This news caused some controversy, but we should just be pleased that the awards are held,. However, let us look inside the award shows. Korean dramas present an address of dramas that have been omitted. For example, pride of the perfect tricky drama, Desperate Housewives, was omitted from receiving the prize because the host nation’s standard of judgment for ‘perfection’ and ‘works’. So the winner is My Lovely Sam-soon. Separately rewarded of Korea were China and Japans’ dramas.

Many analogists point out the differences of Korean dramas’ present condition. There are some problems when dramas are exported. The creators did not  consider the drama’s OST copyright so several parts of the drama have to be changed, such as the music or a singer changed.   

There are many other nations’ dramas that are popular for students, such as American or Japanese drama than, why are we interested in these dramas? The Chung-Ang Herald searched for students, and asked them why they are interested in foreign dramas.

Student A likes Japanese dramas. She likes japan’s stars, but she does not see a Korea drama because she do not interested in Korea drama and it is boring to watch. Japan’s drama story is about absurdity, but it is more spectacular and has a variety of stories.

Another student, Park Ji-hye, likes American dramas. These dramas are big and special. The content is like a big blockbuster movies, so foreign drama is seated social and culture syndrome. She said ‘You know, we can watch Cable Television, and are able to see shows like CSI, Lost, Sex and the City.

However, now Korean public broadcasting stations such as SBS or MBC are televising these programs.’ In addition, two interviewers say other dramas are quickly and easy to watch on the Internet and Korean drama is apparent. Therefore, our task is promoting contents.
