Do you see the movie, Independence Day? Independence Day was released in July 1996 and a famous actor, Will Smith, appeared in the movie. It succeeded in gathering many people to go to theater and see the movie. The movie’s story is the following. From July 2, a strange space craft show up to Earth and wanted to destroy the White House andEmpire Building in the United State. They threatened people in the world. However, the United States blocks the attack,and drives away the enemy. Therefore, 4 July, their Independence Day can become the whole world’s Independence Day.

 Some people think that like the movie, Independence Day, the United States has affected our lives. They think thanks to their policies, world peace can be supported. Pax Americana means like the circumstance. Pax means peace in Latin language. When the Roman Empire conquered other races and governed them, there was a relative peace in the area. So, people said Pax Romana to indicated the situation.

Pax Americana started after World War II finished. From when World War II finished to 1989, the Soviet Union and the United States were together in a pax–system – Pax Russo-Americana. After 1989, the cold war ended with the collapsed of the Soiety Union; pax Americana was very strong.

People say the United States of America is like world police. They have committed their army to major regional conflict insisting on world peace and liberalization. If there is a regional conflict, the American army may go there first. Therefore, many people can recognize the American army and America as a guard for the whole world.

They established an international defense system. They have propelled to complete a Missile Defense System. In addition, they found enemy countries; such as Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Libya, and so on. Because they think that the enemy countries threaten the world peace, and they have suspected them as supporting countries of terrorism.

However, there is a dark side, too. American government and officials are neo-conservative. They believe that power is right and want America to become the strongest country. They seize and exercise power in the Bush administration. Dick Chenny, Vice President and Donald Rumsfeld, the Minister of National Defense are representative people. Moreover, under the Bush administration, American munitions companies have developed.

A few days ago, a report was published in the United States. The report said after 9.11 terrorism and the Iraq war, some American munitions companies are earning more money than at any other time. This includes time before 9.11 terrorist attack on the Trade Center and the war occurred. So, during the war against terror, American munitions companies have gathered the great benefit than past times. The more serious problem is that improvement of American munitions companies benefit and great possibility to stimulate other severe wars.

 Last summer, South Korea was separated, because of the opinion about transfer of wartime control from the United States. The supporters insist we must have self-reliance in our national defenses. They want to be out from under the military effect of USA. However, the disapprovals insist we do not have sufficient power for self-reliance of national defense.

Despite the contrast of opinions, it is obvious the USA affects us.

 In the circumstance, absolute powerful nation was not in international society, many countries fought more often relatively. However, from pax Americana advanced, many countries belonged to pax Americana system, the system affected many other countries, so international peace and order could be in the whole world.

However, in a side, they say world peace, in another side, they conduct war. They insist on their hegemonies and offensive attitude, because of their attack, many innocent people died. When we see the circumstance, how do we answer the question? ; Is it really that pax Americana means world peace?
