In our University, there are the Chung-Ang University (CAU) 2018 plans. Following these plans, our goal in 2013~2016 is to be in the world’s best 100 universities. It is not far from now. There are so many things to be done before this dream of ours cans come true. However, a plan is just a plan, not a magic wand. CAU must put more attention into this plan by keeping focused on other rivalry universities in Korea, and be strong in both the intellectual software and hardware of the school.
‘Business week,’ one of famous business magazines in the United States (US), revealed the reason why Harvard University is the best. Harvard is putting its major efforts into getting the best students from all around the world. This year, Harvard mailed letters to an amazing 70,000-or-so High School Juniors, who have wonderful test scores, offering them to apply to the world’s best-known University. In addition, Harvard admission teams work actively to search and compare their university to others in the US. Harvard students also participate in keeping their university prestige. There are 15 to 20 students who call and/or e-mail low-income high school students and let them know that Harvard is not only for the rich and for elite. Therefore, there are thousands of intellectuals, who are coming from High Schools from all around the world.
What about the CAU? CAU’s administrative has put some effort into being like the world leading university. It is true that there is a gap between the CAU and Harvard University. We all know this. However do not worry, because we are going to change it. Who are we? We are the Chung-Ang University alum and alumni. We do have nothing to lose, which means there is only the ways to make us better than now.
‘Change is the constant, the signal for rebirth, the egg of the phoenix,’ said Andy Warhol, the American artist. Nowadays, we could see several changes in CAU. More foreign students studying in the university, the new buildings with lots of classrooms, and so on. These things seem to intend a rebirth of CAU. It might be our turn to be global-minded students. Let’s be the world’s best-known university. It will be possible.
