In 1918 April, Chung-Ang Kindergarten established at Chung-Ang Methodist Church. To be independent, pioneers determined to establish at Chung-Ang Methodist Church. As they taught kindergarten pupils, kindergarten pupils and theirs parents were taught Korea independent. In 1933 April, Dr. Louis Yim assumed the Principalship, becoming the Founder of the School, moved the School to the present location. Since Korea was independent, the Chung-Ang University was moved to be real university. Finally the Chung-Ang University was real university in 1953 February. So the first master’s degree conferment ceremony was held in 1954 September. And in 1979 January, Second Campus was established Second Campus at Ansung and Graduate School of International Management was established. But Chung-Ang University faced up difficulty test because foundation’s debt is many. But the problem was solved as Dr. Hee-Su Kim appointed as the Eighth Chairman. And now, The University has produced 117,511 bachelors, 19,743 masters and 2,935 doctors in total, from 14 graduate schools and 18 undergraduate colleges comprising 16 divisions, 14 faculties and 68 departments.

The Chung-Ang Herald was published by student reporters as a 4page issue in the Korean Herald in 1957 May 20th. So the Chung-Ang Herald was recognized as the first university English newspaper in Korea. The Chun-Ang Herald started the first nationwide English speech contest for university. ‘The Daily English Study’ was sponsored by student body in 1975 April 10th. So the Chung-Ang Herald helped Chungangians to improve their English ability. In the English Speech Contest, a high school division was added and its name was also changed into the ‘Nationwide Student English Speech Contest’. It played a role in public relation about Chung-Ang University for university for nationwide high schools in 1975 October. And the first on-campus English Essay Contest was launched for the improvement of English writting abilities of Chungangians in 1978 November. The Chung-Ang Herald system was changed in 1985 September 10th. Since this change, sophormores, juniors or seniors from the previous freshman, sophomore and junior. And From the previous operating system in which students had worked for three years, the Chung-Ang Herald changed the length into a half year and two year in 1993 July. The Chung-Ang Herald reformed nationwide university English newspapers. It changed its type from the tabloid newspaper to the new news magazine in 1994 February 10th. So the Chung-Ang Herald’s atmosphere was changed. And, as a first trial among university English newspapers, the Chung-ang Herald stated to use color on all pages in 1995 February. In 1998 February, The Chung-Ang Herald constructed the website(http://herald.press.cau.ac.kr). And now, the Chung-Ang Herald is 50 years old.
