Have you been to the second floor of the Central library of Chung-ang University Seoul Campus? In there, many interesting things are waiting for you. At first, you may feel nervous. But, the feeling will soon be changed as much fun. Can you understand what I am speaking? Where? Yes! It is English Lounge! In here, valuable things are flooding. From now on why don’t we go traveling there?
Park Sung-jin: Do you like American movie? In these days, many people have a tendency to go to the cinema and watch American movies. Hollywood movies are very famous for people in the whole world and affecting many other countries and societies. Therefore, there are many fans of the movies. Especially, participants use the movies and study English with much interest and fun. I went to there at 12:00 PM on Monday and share opinions about movies and related subject I am interested in. At first, I was very concerned about my English conversation skills and how to communicate with other Chung-Ang University students. However, as we spoke what I like, I could increase amount of my ideas I can express. People coming together were good to me and the English Lounge atmosphere made me excited and happy. We could share our thoughts about movies and could know opinions each other. If you go to there in time, you will talk freely.
Jun Min-young I can not speak English well and I am afraid to speak English. Do you same me? So, I went in English Lounge of the Chung-Ang university library. In that there I am experience to free talking. At first, I feel anxiety and shame so do not speak well. But in there persons are very kind and lead me. Our topics are fairly easy such as talking about our ideals, role models or favorite TV shows, which makes beginner speakers to easily follow up. The main staffs are ordinary school students, and anyone can stop by at anytime they want to casually talk about certain topics. Thus, there can be a little gap of English level between students, but it is certainly not hard to follow up. Most of Korean students are not good at speaking English although they are academically good. For students who want to become better in speaking English, English Lounge would be the most appropriate place to do so. I have always doubted about efficiency of English Lounge until I went, but after I’ve actually experienced and socialized with various people, I could not only speak English better but also gain confidence in facing foreigners and speaking up my opinions among others. Do not hesitate! Just step by and enjoy yourself!
The University Head Quarters try to support the English Lounge and students’ English conversation skills. Lee Ji-young, an international student advisor in The International Center of Chung-Ang University said our university endeavor to encourage our university students to use this program more often. She also said the number of students who used English Lounge program in last year was not many. However, according to statistic about English Lounge, the number of the students in this year is much more increased than last year’s. The division thinks that cause of increasing number is settlement of many diverse programs. And our English Lounge staffs always try to meet other students and share their thoughts with the others. In the consequent, the English Lounge become a very famous program for students in the campus. English Lounge staffs said “We, the staffs, try to develop our ability to run these programs with much fun. And we hope many students can learn English conversation skills and think this place as a good it. “Do not be shy! Come here and enjoy with enthusiasm. We are waiting for you!”

How to apply an English Lounge staff
As English Lounge is more famous for CAU students, interests about English Lounge staff are also increasing. Here is some information about how to become an English Lounge staff.
1. If you want to volunteer as an English Lounge staff, read the CAU homepage bulletin (www.cau.ac.kr). By the end time of each semester, division of international cooperation notice CAU students of qualifications about an English Lounge staff in the homepage. And you can summit an application to school.
2. Some qualifications for English Lounge staff:
Necessary qualifications - foreign language ability (official English score, such as TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication), TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language))
dedication and commitment to the CAU students who come to English Lounge, experience to live in other countries, positive and optimistic attitude, specific purpose, and so on.
3. Benefits: social volunteer services 1 grade point, various opportunities to meet many foreign people and other CAU students, benefits when apply for programs projected by division of international cooperation, and so on.
4. Activities: monitor related English Lounge program, prevent CAU students from use Korean, and manage English Lounge.
