Iraq’s kidnappers are now using a pigeon like bird called a zajil for receiving ransom payments. The zajil is stronger and bigger than a normal pigeon. Because pigeons have a homing instinct, kidnappers previously used the pigeon to communicate with families. However, the Iraq police announced to the media that several pigeons were delivered to a victim’s house with a piece of paper. The kidnappers dealt with victim’s family directly, but the police were able to attack the kidnappers using ambush tactics. Therefore, nowadays most kidnappers are using the zajil.
