Mr. Park Yong-sung, the new chairman of CAU Board of trustees

Doosan joined with Chung-Ang University to support the school preparing for its 100th anniversary and works toward developing world-class learning programs. By working with Doosan, Chung-Ang University lays the foundation for solidifying its reputation as a global private university and taking a leadership role in educational reform.

August 27th, the professor conference was held in Yong-pyong resort for two days. Park yong-sung, the new chairman of Chung-Ang University Board of the trustees pointed out about problems of the plan “CAU2018” and directed complement to reinforce concrete way to get in action to the plan. “CAU2018”is a master plan for long-period development preparing for 100th anniversary. Whole participants of Chung-ang University could only but concentrate on the revision plan, “the CAU2018+”, in the conference.


Three keywords such as “Reinforcement of action power”, “Selection and concentration”, “Circulation system”can build the "CAU2018+". First of all, Doosan showed the difference of“Reinforcement of action power” from “CAU2018” to “CAU2018+”. Doosan requested to consulting firm to evaluate the previous plan. According to their report, 51% of the plan was inadequate in 68% of enforced plans. These were originated from absence of monitoring (39%), shortage of enough place (22%) and financial problem (23%).

“Selection and concentration” was emphasized on the HR(Human Resource) system of whole Chung-Ang, the professors and the students. Professors would be given reward in grades. There would be evaluating channels for professors such as education, research and voluntary activities. With a slight raise in professor's basic income, powerful motivation of monetary incentive would be given to "Hall of Fame" professors, in the maximum amount of 80,000,000 won.

But, some are anxious about system because they thought it is only one-way communication. Park revealed worry with saying that “Although selection obviously will do, it is nothing like black and white. Something that is not selected was always not abolished” and he often stressed that it is not unilateral way. “There were several informal gatherings with students. And we communicated with staffs of the school and professors in Chang-won workshop.”

“Circulation system” introduced in financial aid program, a matter of concern to students. It is “Loan scholarship program”. Below this program, students have a duty to pay back without any interest. Park talked about how the idea of 0% interest rate loan scholarship came. “University is not a place for money lending but to study.” And he explained that “only investment is not to help people develop each other” and “Making self-dependence is ultimate goal.” Namely, laying out money in university is not infinite. And only boundlessness put is not efficient. This thinking is ground of circulation system.

He gave a comment to Chung-angians, “If you can dream it, you can do it”. It is his fundamentals of all this change. He emphasized of chung-angian’s protocol to study hard and have an active consciousness for real world. Now, Doosan think that financial structure did not always resolve Chung-ang University.
