I was extremely moved by the movie “Dead Poets Society”. I can’t forget the lines the hero said in the movie. “Carpe diem, seize the day. The purpose of education is to learn to think for yourself. Seize the day, make your life extraordinary.” I was aware of my own special life after I saw that movie. The time right now never come back. Because of that reason, I decided to do my best all the time to make my life better. I thought it would not be my dream just as an ordinary grown-up office worker. So I started to seek after my special ability that can make me best person in the field. To find my special talent, I tried to learn many things. Like this, movie can influence audience positively.

Assistant of Film studies and a student of graduate school, Leigh Young-kee, said he was impressed by the movie “Star Wars”. He said that the movie affected him to select his major, Film studies. He had an impress on old-style movies, and the movie changed his life completely.

Leigh Young-kee as a director made a movie “The unforgiven” starring Ha Jung-woo. He made his movie in his real-life experience . He is creating a movie about the relationship about father and son right now.

When he was a high school student, there was “Pusan International Film Festival”. He grew up in the winds of movie. So he felt the movie like a friend. He agreed with the ideas of movie that can give us a lesson. But as a person majoring in Film studies he expects audience to watch the movie with an easy mind. There are hundreds of movies in Hollywood just for fun. But we, Koreans, are restricted to injunctions the movie give. Movie is an entertainment media and he wished in his most.

He told that the movie, as a medium of media, is a root of many products. As movie progress, TV or DVD develops together. And also it’s not only source of Cinema industry but also the root of a key industry. For example “Happy Meal Sets” from Macdonald uses many characters from the movie which is now on the show. In this manner movie occupies an important position in these days.

CAH asked him that isn’t it difficult to create movie as a student by money problem or time problem but he said that as a student majored in Film studies it is not tough to make movie. To tell the truth it takes much money and time to make movies. But it’s not that hard because in Film Studies they take exam by making films so time problem with time. And there is no need to take language study like other students so with that money which other students pay in study Film studies students make movies. It’s their duty like we study.

These days many university students make movie. There are many contests that students participate for the prize. He said students create movie because digital era arrive. Movie is not anymore need high technology. In the past days, it was little burden to shooting. But in Digital era, deleting is much easier so the responsibility following with shooting is lower. So anyone who has interesting in movie he of she can make movie as much as he or she wants. And for the other reason, thanks for the international Film Festival held in Korea, there came into being many departments which is related with movie in university. So many people major in Film connected studies.

There are many movies in box office that can make people to cry or laugh. Going for a movie is the most common and easy leisure activities nowadays. Going with the flow, many university students make a movie. They create movie for many reasons. CAH met Jo Hee-jin(Mass Communication 06) who was participated in “Shift U”, last September.

1. Tell us about your movie “Ma-eum-eu-ro-dae-ga-gi”
The subject of my movie is “Concern”. There are twins that figure in this affair. In what manner they were grown up in the same living environment but they have different character. In the movie, two of them is different by sexual and their situation, one of them is university student and the other is a student who failed a university-entrance exam and has been cramming to try again. They concern about each other but sometimes other person’s care can be not concern anymore. We always consider other people. I don’t want to tell how to consider other people; I just want to show that here is some concern as follows. People think in their own ways. In the same situation, even though they are twins their own thinking maybe different. 

2. Why do you create a movie?
I have the message which I want to communicate. Among many mediums of media, movie was suitable media to deliver my message. So I take the form of movie. I think an image is much easier media than writing. And without directing expression, I can communicate with audience through the reflection. It’s a merit of movie. And it is possible to reinterpret maker’s thought. Movie gives free play to audience. They take the image and imagine in their own world. Irrespective of my purpose of making film, if audience catches the movie’s message and personalizes it, it’s also the fascination of movie.

3. Were there any difficulties in the process of creating?
Time is always a problem. And also money is a big thing to deal with. In my case, I work for “Daum” so they helped me in money matter. So I can concentrate on the movie.
After I interview with two people I think making a movie is another expression of students. Many people want to share their story with other people. Movie can be a mean of communication. We should listen to their voice and think about our own voice.
