The “Na-ra-chan” team gets gold in a contest held by the Fair Trade Commission

On September the 6th to the 8th, the “Na-ra-chan” team which is the CAU Economic law team won the first prize in the “10th under-graduate and graduate fair trade commission contest” held by the Fair Trade Commission with the theme, “About the CJoyE&M company’s abuse of market dominance and practice of unfair trade”. The “Na-ra-chan” team had a total of 23 members. The team leader was Jung Tae-hyuk, with team members Kim Sang-me, Kim Jee-ye, Kim Hae-na, No Gang-re, Ye Chang-wan, Woo Jung-woo, You Hyeun-woo, Jang Seung-jae, Kim Dong-ook, Kim Min-suk, Kim Jung-gil, Lee shi-beck, Lee Hyeun-jin, Kim Byeoung-min, You So-young, Kim Jun-tae, Park Gee-won, Lee So-jung, Lee Hak-seung, Kim Hee-geun, Gee Seung-Hyeun. This year’s contest had the largest scale ever, with 22 participating teams from 20 universities.
The “Na-ra-chan” team’s theme was first thought up by questioning themselves on how “Café bene” managed to grow so big in such a short amount of time. Since they had grown almost as large as starbucks in 2~3 years which took 10 years for starbucks, it definitely seemed fishy. So the team did some investigation and found out that Café bene used actors who used to work for starbucks. Also, when those actors got to be casted on movies or dramas, they noticed that Café bene also came out in that movie as well which at the end lead to indirect advertisement. These kind of relatively small things that the “Na-ra-chan” team noticed, eventually lead to the making of an outstanding report and a brilliant play which lead to the gold medal.
The contest for September the 6th went from 9:20am to 6:30 pm, with 16 teams and on September the 7th, 9:10am to 6:30pm with 6 teams, including time for the judges to make their decisions, a talent show, award giving and time to take photographs.
A member of the “Na-ra-chan” team Gee Seung-hyeun commented, “We were expecting at least 2nd place at the contest, but when Seoul University was awarded 2nd and the Yonsei university students seemed certain of their triumph, we were kind of letdown. But when our expectations were correct, it simply felt marvelous.” Also, he commented that, “Getting ready for the contest was really difficult. We had trouble in borrowing classrooms since we had to at least borrow one from 10am to 6pm for the period when we were getting our report ready. Also, we had to submit more than 10 copies of the report when making one costs over 100,000 won, so the expenses were definitely difficult to ignore. Since now that we have won, I hope that CAU sees more light in us competing in this contest and that we could have some more support in future participation.”
