What comes to your mind first when you think of ‘reporter’? Do you imagine the image of society’s accuser, someone who fights for the truth? Of course this is one aspect of what reporters do, . however However there are various kinds of reporters in our lives, not only reporters at influential press company but someone some that exists nearby the students. They are precisely student reporters who belong to the campus press. For Chung-ang Ang University including faculty, staffs, and students there exist are various types of media such as the CAU Ilbo, UBS, the Chung-ang Ang Herald and so onmore.

Where did the first campus newspaper begin to be published? The beginning was from the University of Missouri where the first department of journalism was established at on September 14th, 1908. With the birth of department of journalism, concurrently the campus newspaper published the first issue of their campus newspaper in order to give students a chance to do get some practical exerciseexperience. Starting with ‘The University Missourian’, many other universities all over the world also began to publish their own campus newspapers. As the campus newspapers generalizedgained prominence, the purpose also changed from merely practicing to actually introducing new information and opinion about the happenings at each university to the students and community members.

How and Whywhy have these campuses press kept themselves in existence despite a variety of media outside of each campus? The answer would be the campus press’ unique focus. It means uUnlike large press media, such as the Chosun Ilbo or KBS, campus press has a big advantage that it can focus on its specific readers and object to reportand their needs. Of course like the common public press does, the campus press also aims at basic functioning such as reporting news, guiding public opinion, offering recreation and advertisement. However, it has a distinct characteristic, ; it is a press existing in on campus and specifically for campus. Besides, the campus press has been valued as a base camp of future journalists and a booster of communicationng among college members.

How and in what ways could the campus press affect to our campus? CAH conducted a survey to listen to our readers’ opinions about the influence of our campus press. The survey objects asked were twenty-five CAU freshmen of CAU and it was conducted by a form of answering paper questionnairea number of questoins. According to the result of the survey, since their entrance into CAU, 72% (18) of these people (18 people) have read the ‘CAU Ilbo’, 16% (4 people) heard have listened to ‘UBS’ news, 68% (17 people) have read the ‘Chung-ang Ang Herald’, and 28% of people have read the feminism magazine, ‘‘Green녹지’. In addition, almost half of the students (12 people) replied that they are exposed tocontact these campus news once a month, each and 5 people answered once a week, and or once a every two weeks. Furthermore, there are roughly 3 main purposes why the students subscribe use the campus press. The 3 main reasons are 1) for recognizing important issues regarding CAU,. 2) for getting information inside of CAU, and 3) for killing time between commuting or courses.
Not only that, the students suggested a variety of opinions about the campus press’ positive effects compared to other influential press on the survey. Most of them thought highly of the fact that the campus media is made by students., Iit helps people to know get a more balanced viewpoint of certain news without outside of pressure. Especially oOne student, majoring in English language Language and literature Literature, commented that only with the existence of campus press, it contributes to improve diversity of campus society for everyone. There was also a viewpoint that the campus press offers students a chance to have a career exploration as a student reporter before they graduate the university and go out to the real competitive world.

What is ‘Report’? Definitely, the meaning of ‘report’ looking at it fromthinking as a new reporter’s point of view and as a reader’s is slightly different. Ultimately in the reporter’s point of view, ‘report’ should be an existence not only just informing new information fast and accurately to readers, but it also should help the readers find out and think about the truth and think about a new angle regarding the truth. To fulfill the mission as campus press reporters, all the student reporters are constantly trying their best for to contributeing to better, newer ‘report’.
