On October 6th, the Chung-ang graduate school had a special lecture called ‘career concert’. ‘Career concert’ is a relay lecture by economic celebrities provided to MBA students. Jeong Byeong-chan who is a CEO of JCMBA and JC Conet gladly gave a special lecture to MBA students and other department student as well.
He started the lecture by asking the audience, ‘Why did you choose MBA?’ Through the entire lecture he kept emphasizing one’s aptitude. He showed competition rates of transfer among Korean university students. Also he compared the level of happiness between Korean university students and European university students. With this rate, he described Korea’s reality which is chasing after money and honor rather than pursuing their dream. He emphasized the importance of knowing your aptitude, and ability when one is a student. He said that what most company workers regret the most about their student life is that they didn’t try hard enough to find and pursue their dream.
Jeong not only emphasized knowing your aptitude but also knowing the rapidly changing society. He said he hopes that engineering department student to apply for MBA more because there’s a bright future for them. According to Mr. Jeong, engineering students have a higher potential to get a better job with an MBA than for those who majored in business and yet did not continue on with an MBA, because society needs experts with various talents. He mentioned that for now there are not many job offers for people in with an MBA after majoring engineering but that the trend is changing rapidly, saying that in at least 5 years, society will find more engineering students who has have an MBA.
For the last 15 minutes, he gave a lecture with more advanced contents which are were related to business and economy. At the end of the lecture, he ended with the question ‘What color is your parachute?’ which made the audience think about their aptitude (color of the parachute). After the lecture, MBA students had a chance to have dinner with Mr. Jeong. Through the lecture and dinner, Mr. Jeong inspired not only MBA students, but also all university students to try their best to find and pursue their dreams. The CAU graduate school is planning to host special lectures regularly under the name of ‘career concert’ throughout this semester and hopefully many students can participate.
