The CAU Human Science Laboratory and the French Culture Center in Korea worked together to hold a forum on November 7th, 2011 in the Law School building. They invited some of the French humanists to deliver a speech and lead the forum. Professor Kang Nae-hui, who teaches in the Department of English Language and Literature as well as the Department of Culture Study in the CAU Graduate School, began the event as a MC. The first speech was delivered by Francois Cusset, a professor at Nanterre University who teaches in the Department of American Civilization. He has published several books including “French Theory. How Foucault, Derrida, Deleuze, & co. Transformed the Intellectual Life of the United States,” and “Contre-Discours de Mai.” His lecture was mostly about the 68 Roveolution. This Revolution occurred in 1968 in France, and was one of the large-scale movements led by students and labors. It still serves as a controversial subject among many people that they passionately research and analyze about it. The second lecture was led by professor Baek Seung-Wook who teaches in the Department of Sociology in CAU. He discussed about the meaning of the present Cultural Revolution and asserted that the revolution has hardly come to an end. The next lecture was given by Shim Kwang-hyun, a professor at Korea National University of Arts. His speech was about a cultural and political paradox of the 68 Revolution and its problems. Lastly, a discussion was led by Professor Kang Nae-hui. All the professors kindly answered the questions that students asked in the forum.
