To see which aspects determine first impression, appearance forms the greatest part, which is 80%, followed by voice and personality. In addition, 93% of job interviewers stated that first impression of applicants is hardly changed even after the interview. A survey conducted by a portal site called “Albamon” shows that 98% of university student participants agree on the statement that appearance became one’s competitiveness. Some people criticize the social atmosphere which attaches great importance to one’s appearance, but it counts for much in multifarious parts of people’s lives, as shown in the data. The first reason why appearance is considered as critical in our lives is that paying attention to own appearance does not just mean a change in one’s look but self-discipline and self-improvement. Once a person’s outward appearance is improved, one can not only receive satisfaction but also emerge from feeling inferior and have proficient interpersonal skills. Especially, going on a diet and keeping oneself in good shape give salience to establishing willpower and perseverance since one can possess a full control of one’s body. The fact that a comedian called Jung Jong-cheol who was known to be fleshy succeeded in losing weight and forming a firm body has been an issue lately. Posting a picture of his own muscle in his back and publishing a diet book called “Father’s Revolution of fat,” he became both physically and mentally healthy. The second reason is that good looking people can contribute to public welfare by forming a positive social atmosphere. As everyone knows, the purpose of business is to create profits. In business, relationships are shaped by consulting own interests without knowing partner’s personality but appearance. Thus, it is logical to assert that people should have appearance of favorable impressions in order to be successful in own business. Moreover, there is a psychological term, “Devil Effect,” which explains that people’s other aspects are evaluated negatively due to their ugly faces. For example, looking at policemen with crumpled and dirty costume, people would wonder how they can keep the country safe if they cannot even wear proper costumes. Therefore, it is an undeniable fact that favorable appearance is one of the aspects that can lead people to a successful life.
