1. La Tomatina tomato festival is a world-famous Spanish festival that takes place in the towns of Bunol in the Valencia region. The festival takes place on the last Wednesday of August every year. Many people join and throw tomatoes at each other for fun. The origin of this festival comes from the year 1944. The price of tomatoes was about to plummet and thus the exasperated farmers threw tomatoes to the members of the city council to wreak their anger. The festival begins with dropping a ham off the pole. Participants climb to the top of the pole and bring the ham down. A cannon shot after that signals the beginning of the tomato fight. The most important tips for enjoying the Tomatina festival is to throw tomatoes after squishing them, wear goggles, and have old clothes. Above all, La Tomatina provides an opportunity to relieve stress and experience freedom and joy. *The tomato festival in South Korea is the Hwacheon Tomato festival. The 10th Hwacheon Tomato Festival was held from August 10th~12th of 2012. It was held in a tomato producing district located in Hwacheon, Gangwon province.
2. Oktoberfest takes place for 16 days in Munich, Germany every year from the end of September to the first weekend of October. Oktoberfest was created to celebrate the marriage of the king and a princess in Bavaria. It was in commemoration of King Ludwig I of Bavaria, who reigned in Bavaria from 1825 until 1848. He was married to Princess Therese of Bavaria. The festival became a popular symbol of Germany after six major companies in Munich supported the festival in 1883. During the festival, people drink beers in the beer gardens in an area named the Theresienwiese Field, which is located near the center of Munich. The festival begins at 12 o'clock with the mayor striking the bung of a beer barrel that has been produced that year. Over 7 million tourists from all over the world as well as German citizens come and enjoy Oktoberfest.
*Enjoy Oktoberfest in South Korea at the Grand Hilton hotel in Seoul. The hotel will be re-enacting traditional German Oktoberfest on September 8th of 2012.
3. Notting Hill Carnival is the biggest European street festival. It is held in Notting Hill, London every last weekend of August for 2~4 days. The festival was created for the working class. Despite the different origins and races, all workers unite as one. This aspect makes the festival special. One of its most famous moments was in 1965 when African immigrants danced and marched the streets during the festival. The Notting Hill festival became the biggest festival on a national scale and over a million people have participated since 1957. Presently, it is not just a festival for Africans but for all races, and it is the best art festival in Europe. The festival is held on a very large scale.
