These days’ idol groups after idol groups appear on music programs. Some idol groups dance intensively and sing lively. However, most of them lip-sync or half live/half lip-sync their performances. What they have in common are easy, addictive choruses and easy dance movements. Why do idol groups monopolize the world of Korean singers?

The world of singers is a market. Therefore it has consumers and suppliers. The Korean music market is very small. That is, the music market can’t generate a sufficient profit. Naturally, entertainment companies want to produce not only, singers, but also entertainers with good-looking faces, good speaking abilities, and acting skills. The influence of Korean Wave is big too. Most countries, which are influenced by Korean Wave want idol groups. Thus, idol group markets develop.

TVXQ and Super Junior, who started the 2nd idol world in Korea, debuted in 2004~2006. A total of 7 years has passed since their debut. During this time, countless idol groups have been born, disappeared even at this moment. People are tired because teenage idols who haven’t experienced love sing about love with meaningless and hypocritical lyrics. People are starting to be enthusiastic about ‘real singers’ who appear on TV programs such as ‘Superstar K’, ‘I’m a Singer’, etc. As a result, the number of singers has increased. However, idol groups still have a strong power in album rankings, end of year rankings, and so on. Good singing idols and good dancing idols exist. However, whoever may sympathize. They are different from singers who have appeared on ‘I’m a singer’ and ‘Voice of Korea’.

Music doesn’t have a single standard basis. What is good music to one, is bad to others. However, it is pitiful that a singer who doesn’t understand music sings pretentiously, and people listen to that music. The best method to get out of the idol-centric music market is for people to seize ‘real music’. As previously stated, the world of singers is a market. Therefore, it consists of consumer’s demand. To escape from a commercial music market, we should try to find real music. This opinion does not mean we should not listen to Idol music. Just as we keep our body healthy by eating a variety of food, the music industry, the world, and the listeners can be healthy when people listen to a variety of music. Let’s find really touching music instead of commercial and performance oriented music. By doing so, competent singers will receive affection, and incompetent singers will naturally be excluded.
