Interview
Q. Do you know any tips to enjoy a successful life as an exchange student?
A. First, don’t study alone in the dormitory! Go out and do something outside at least. In Beijing, there are lots of things to see, and I think real studying is accomplished by seeing and feeling all those things. Most exchange students think that they should not hang out with Koreans in order to learn foreign languages, but I think you have to get along with Korean friends first. You can learn useful information and meet their Chinese friends. Actually, it’s not easy to meet Chinese friends in China. Especially in Tsinghua, there are many Korean exchange students, so it is more difficult to make Chinese friends. So meeting Korean friends is a very good way to adapt to the new environment.

Q. As an exchange student, what must we do in Tsinghua University?
A. Tsinghua University is so large that students can’t see the whole campus in one semester. You must buy a bike first, and look around the university slowly. There are lots of attractions and many restaurants with delicious food. Beijing is huge place where you can see a lot of things such as the Great Wall, The Forbidden City, and so on. In addition, there are many clubs within the university. If you join the clubs, you can meet many friends. I joined the baseball club for Korean exchange students.

Q. Can you share a school legend or rumor of Tsinghua University?
A. I don’t know whether it is true or not, but I heard there is a person who never went outside of the university until graduation. Many Chinese universities have readily accessible facilities, so I think it is a possible story.

Q. Tsinghua University is known as the rival of Beijing University. Are there any interactions between the two universities?
A. Like the rivalry festival between Yonsei and Korea University in Korea, there is the "Tsing-Bei" match, which is a match between Tsinghua and Beijing University. However it is very difficult to join that match as an exchange student. Instead of that match, A council of Korean Exchange Students at Tsinghua and Beijjing university host a Tsing-bei match and various other programs for exchange students.

Q. Do you have any suggestions or tips for those who want to go to Tsinghua University as exchange students?
A. Tsinghua University is in the capital, Beijing, and it is the best University in China. Thus, studying as an exchange student at Tsinghua is a great chance to study real China. Please prepare hard and seize the wonderful chance.
