The regular concert of CAU’s Faculty of Music was held on Wednesday September 12th at concert hall of Seoul Arts Center at 8p.m. to celebrate CAU’s 94th school anniversary. The performance was conducted by Keum No-sang, who is a CAU professor and representative conductor of South Korea. He was also a professor of Wein Musik Hochschule which produced a lot of famous conductors such as Claudio Abbado and Zubin Mehta.
The performance was composed of two sessions. There was an intermission between those parts. At the first session, 4 songs were played. “William Tell Overture” by Rossini was played first. The music started with a cello solo, then other string instruments, timpani, and flutes joined in. A baritone, Beck Seung-yeul, who is a junior of CAU majored in the Department of Vocal Music, sung the Opera <Rigoletto>. Park suk-eun is a bass baritone who is a senior also majored in vocal music, sung the Opera <La Gioconda> by Ponchielli. A wooden quartet was played by Kim Min-joo with an oboe, Chae Yea-seul with a clarinet, Kim Yea-eun with a Basson, and Kim Hye-min with a horn. They are all seniors of CAU majoring in Wind and String Instruments. At the second session, the song, Le sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring) by Igor Stravinsky was played. Stravinsky has described The Rite of Spring as "a musical-choreographic work, unified by a single idea: the mystery and great surge of the creative power of Spring".
The audience were mostly people majoring or graduated from the Faculty of Music of CAU. One of the alumni of the Department of Music said, “It was great to see my junior’s concert. They seem better than me when I was at their ages. Due to the concert, the older and younger students could have a chance to gather around in one place. I think it would be a great idea to have a regular concert every year.”
