On October 9th and 10th, 2012, the 2012 4D Art Show took place in the central square of Chung-Ang University. It was hosted by The FESTIVITY of Arts and Physical College of Chung-Ang University and conducted by The Art College, The Cutting Edge Image graduate school, and The Business/Economic College of Chung-Ang University. Since The Art College (except the department of Theater and Film) is located in Anseong, there was little chance to communicate with CAU students. However, through the 4D Art Show, many CAU students could enjoy The Art College students’ wonderful performance. The show began with a special video, “History of Chung-Ang University”, followed by Korean dance, valet, traditional art performance, and another special video, “Soar”, on the first day. The second day’s show also started with a special video “History of Chung-Ang university” and then valet, Korean dance, musical “Hero”, traditional art performance, orchestra, and a special video “Soar” came after. More than 300 people, including a performance team, production team, and progress team were involved in the show. The first day’s MCs were actor Lee Pung-wun (12 ∙ department of Theater and Film) and actress Park Shin-hye (08 ∙ department of Theater and Film). The second day’s MCs were actor Lee Pung-wun and singer Kwon Yu-ri (10 ∙ department of Theater and Film). Even though the show started at 7:30 in the afternoon, many CAU students and outsiders attended to enjoy the show.

4D Art Show Technique – The building is alive! 3D projection Mapping
3D mapping is a ‘media façade’ method, which passes on information through the building. According to building scanning, 3D stereopsis is rendered from the surface of the building. Dynamic effects were shown. For example, the wall moves in and out or the middle of the building opens and the cars or people come up. Two projectors from the Yeosu Expo projected lights onto the building, Youngshingwan. This cutting edge technology was realized in the university for the first time.
What is media façade? It is a compound word of façade and media. It is portrayed as a new trend for 21st century architecture

4D Art Show Story – Answer 1918! Shedding new light on architectures
The canvas of the 4D Art Show, Youngshingwan, has historical and traditional symbolic importance as the first building of Chung-Ang University. CAU wishes to find the real meaning of university and bring a hopeful message to the future generation. Since 1918, CAU had made a great progress and now it is one of the best universities in Korea.

4D Art Show performance scale – everyone’s dreams get together and light the future!
The 4D Art Show is a huge, unprecedented project including about 400 experts in various fields (art, video, and business). This project will be a symbolic one as CAU crates new types of cultural art through communication and harmonization.

Interview with a student (Freshman, Major in Library and Information Science)
CAH: How was the show?
P: It was strikingly beautiful. I used to pass by Youngshingwan indifferently but it transformed to a wonderful canvas. The Art College should have done this amazing show before. I can’t wait to see the next show.
CAH: What was the best thing about the show?
S: I didn’t have any chance to see Korean traditional dance. The 4D Art Show gave me a chance to see it. I was grateful to watch the performance which was awesome. The weather was bit cold but the students’ passion outweighed it. I’m so proud of the CAU students.
