On February 6, there was a teaching method special lecture for the future lecturers and graduate students. The lecture which took place in RD center room 109 was progressed with presentation of the example of excellent lecture. Chang-Ang university professor, Lim Bi-o gave the lecture. His lecture was nominated for the outstanding class in Creative Teaching Initiative Program in 2012.
The lecture was given in two parts. The first part was introducing teaching methods of professor Lim. He introduced Problem Based Learning (PBL). PBL is a teaching method that gives actual problems to students and asks them to find a proper solution. Students solve the problems in groups. Professor Lim chose this method because PBL is a completely student focused way of teaching.
After professor Lim finished his first part, there was a question and answer period. One student asked how to boost the personal participation rate in group activities. The professor answered that a lecture is composed of trust and communication. If the lecturer is nice and interesting, the participation rate will increase. Also, the lecturer should consider students’ age and tendency when forming groups.
The second part of the lecture was showing a video of professor Lim’s actual lecture. He actually gave the lecture of PBL method to seniors of Clinical Biomechanics students. They were given three problems and had to hand in three reports to each problems.
Most of the students who took this lecture were satisfied to the new PBL method. Through the lecture and example, future lecturers and graduate students can learn many things about teaching.
