From January 14th to February 28th, the ‘2013 Winter Free Human Camp’ was held in Chung-Ang University. This program has been held from November, 2010 by Submarine Rabbits and Chung-Ang Culture.

 

What is the ‘Submarine Rabbits’?

They were made in 2010 and also have held the Free Human Camp from in 2010 until now. They said “Humanities, democracy, student autonomy which symbolized university at one time are disappearing now and students care only employment and accumulating their specifications. We have to make hope and resist strongly. Through our ‘Free Human Camp’, students can study and discuss together.’

 

 A leap of the imagination 

The first session consisted of four lectures. The first lecture, ‘Concrete Utopia: Apartment, culture of view’ was given a lecture by Park Hae-cheon who is a BK research professor in Hong-Ik University. The second lecture, ‘The Private Truth of ironist’ was held by Lee Yu-sun who is a professor in Seoul national university. In this lecture, students could learn thoughts of popular philosophers and think our existence. The third lecture, ‘Pop culture and cultural politics: pop culture, popular consciousness, and cultural practice’ was held by Oh Sung-Kyun who is professor of Chung-Ang University. Finally, CAH listened to the lecture ‘My Writing is Text: appreciate masterpieces about memories, growth and writing’ by Pyo Myung-hee who is a novelist. She said that ‘to write well, we have to read well.’ So this lecture was advanced read pieces and write freely. Students also read writing of other students and talked freely each other. A student ‘Choi Seung-hee’ who majors in German Literature and Language said “Typically professors look my best point in report. So I don’t know my errors. But in these lecture, I can learn my best and worst point both. So I’m satisfied about this lecture.” From this, CAH knows that this camp shows new system of education and because of that, students could be satisfied at these lectures.

 

The liberation of a reason

The second session had five lectures. To begin with, ‘The Devil Eat men who stray trailing: politics and culture of financing’ by Seo Dong-jin who is a professor of Kay-won university showed different looks of financing. Secondly, ‘Althusser and Lacan’ is to correctly understand their positions. This was held by Choi-Won who is a doctor of Philosophy. Thirdly ‘History of Sexuality: Questions about format of the power’ was held by two women who are completing their doctoral coursework at Ewha Woman’s university. This showed history of suppression and tolerance surrounding sexuality. The next lecture’s name is ‘Reading <the Capital>’. This was held by Kim Kong-hee who studied Marx economics. Lastly, ‘The Law and The Rule of Law: Critically reading through thinking outside of the law’ showed needs to know means and roles of law in modern society. This was lectured by Hong Sung-su who is an assistant professor in Sook-myung Woman’s university.

 

The extension of sense

As we can tell from the title, this session was about arts, movies, and performance. About arts, there are two lectures. The first lecture ‘Squares and Parks’ by Kim Jang-eon who is a professor in Kay-won University showed creative moves of modern art and public art in the growth of cities. The second lecture, ‘Four Thinking about Perspective and Intellect’ by Jeong-hyun who is an independent curator showed thinking about modern art in media culture, globalism, and financial capitalism. About movies and performance, there are three lectures. ‘Movies and Revolution’ by Kim Sung-uk who is a program director, ‘Why do I Make a Film?’ by Lee Hyuk-sang who is a culture activist and ‘Action Workshop-Ask to my mind’ by Yeo Se-jin who is a representative of Action Mask.
