There are various civil rights such as ‘protecting oneself’, ‘pursuing their happiness’, ‘protecting freedom of speaking out’, and ‘the right to live a better life’. However, the leaders of the world do not understand rights properly, especially the last one. After watching the 2008 economic crisis, they still want to impose neo-liberalism and current globalization on people, which make the situation worse. Yes, those two things saved millions and millions of people, but also took down millions and millions of people. We need changes to stop this.
First, people need to create a society that protects a person who fails. Neo-liberalism makes competition the most important thing. However, it does not provide protection for people who fail. The government needs to provide proper aid to make them climb up social ladder, so people can work with no worry, believing they can still provide food for their family after failure. This will make people challege more, evetually leading to economic development.
Second, the world should stop current globalization. Ongoing globalization with neo-liberalism wants people to fight globally. This competition killed enormous number of people. For example, nations sell arms to a country that has a civil war. To stop such a situation, people need to take away the power of five veto-wielding permanent members, China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. They sell the greatest amount of weapons, supply weapons to dangerous armies, and also create economic conflicts. By taking away their power, people can have the power to regulate them and conflicts.
Syria is having an ongoing civil war. Why is it not ending early? Weapon providers do not want them to stop. Why is Greece still in the economic crisis? Because nations and companies are competing to gain profits out of it. While they are doing these, people are dying. Do they have rights to kill people for more profits? No. Changes are needed to create a better country for everybody.< 저작권자 © 중앙헤럴드 무단전재 및 재배포금지 >
