Do you know about ‘Mizee Blind Date’? Most of the students at Chung-ang University have heard about it. Mizee Blind Date is a blind date for young single men and women. Mizee means unknown. It started from the community of Chung-Ang University, ‘Chung-Ang In’ in August, 2011. Now, Mizee Blind Date is on its 10th date. If you want to participate in the blind date, you can just apply for the date when the notice of the blind date is announced by the Chung-Ang In. You do not have to worry about disclosure of your personal information. The security is very strict and only the meeting host can know about participants’ information. The blind date is complimentary. However, there is a deposit system for keeping everything anonymous. Before participants meet each other’s partner, they have to pay 10,000 won to the meeting host. After the date, when the participants prove that they really met and went out, the meeting host pays back the money. Since the first date, Mizee Blind Date got much more famous. Now, students from outside of Chung-Ang University also applied for the date and one TV program even covered this blind date. From the first date to 9th date, about one thousand couples have been created. In this 10th date, there were too many applicants so the date had to have an early closure. So, who is the meeting host of Mizee Blind Date? CAH met him.
Interview with the meeting host, Cho Seong-kwon
1. How did you start Mizee Blind Date?
One day, I was reading writings from Chung-Ang In. A woman wrote that she is lonely. After reading that, there was also a man wrote that he is lonely. Seeing the two writings, I thought, why didn't they ever meet? The problem was contact. There was no contact between them. I thought that I could be the contact and if people who want to have a date send their information to me, I can match them. I wanted to make more relationships for more people.
2. Is there any difference between Mizee Blind Date and other social dating programs? What is the attraction of Mizee Blind Date?
All the other social date programs have to uncover participants’ photo, so the participants know who they will meet. However, Mizee Blind Date does not. The charm of Mizee Blind Date is not knowing. In this blind date, participants do not uncover their photo and it gives them both a thrill and fear. Meeting someone that I do not know makes me feel thrill and fear. These feelings become romance while dating one’s partner. I believe this is why Mizee Blind Date is loved by students.
3. While hosting Mizee Blind Date, when do you feel most worthwhile?
There was one participant who did not get along well with his partner. The partner was a nice woman but did not fit well with him. Though his date was not successful, he said he is very thankful to me. He also said that he is proud of me since I host such a nice and good event. He made a nickname; a memory make. Some people can think that a blind date program is a trivial romance program, but I believe that I make unforgettable memories for people. That is the time when I feel worthwhile.
4. What is your final goal of Mizee Blind Date?
I want to let people in Korea know about the charming points of Mizee Blind Date and give opportunity to new romance. I hope Mizee Blind Date would go further to all over the Korea and the world. However, right now, I hope I can make much nicer connections for my participants.< 저작권자 © 중앙헤럴드 무단전재 및 재배포금지 >
