The importance of healing our inner selves and our body through constant care and practice of rituals has long been acknowledged by many. Now through ‘Arimu’, which is a traditional Korean Tai Chi that helps to cure our mind and body, it is a way for Chung-Ang University students and the locals of Dongjak-gu to stay fit. On the 10th of March the first session of Arimu was held at the gymnasium in the aerobics room. The program consists of 2 parts; a course that helps you to flatten your stomach, as well as the intensive course of Arimu itself.

“For our minds to feel a sense of security our body has to be healthy as well. The main feature that differentiates this program from the usual psychological therapies is that our program focuses more on the physical well-being of our body,” says Professor Yoo Kwon-jong, who has organized the Arimu program to be held at CAU. He also added that “Unlike Chinese Tai Chi, Arimu is a modernized version which has been adapted to meet the demands of our modern world. By practicing Arimu you are able to experience traditional Korean martial arts moves. It also helps you to stay fit and healthy and helps you to invigorate yourself.”

CAH interviewed Kim Jong-seog who is the president of the World Arimu Cure Association to understand more about the program’s goals.

CAH: How can the Arimu program help Chung-Ang University students?

KIM: Students nowadays spend a lot of their time in front of computers doing assignments and are stressed about all different things. Practicing Arimu can help students feel relaxed and focused. It is great for strengthening their inner bodies. I encourage the international students of Chung-Ang University to participate in this Arimu program as well. It is a great way to experience traditional Korean culture.
