Chung-Ang University opened an unprecedented and distinctive course called ”CAU Campus Mayor” for the class of 2016. The course was established in order to tackle the real challenges in Seoul and devise practical solutions through CAU students’ active and creative activities. The course mainly practices field education and the students receive diverse opportunities to mutually exchange opinions and information by meeting experts and activists.

The Seoul Government and Chung-Ang University aim to cultivate a new creative talent that can promote the betterment of society with brilliant ideas. Any student who has a deep interest in the problematic aspects of local communities could freely participate in this course, regardless of one’s major. Therefore, the course consists of students from various majors from the natural sciences, engineering, and the social sciences. The students do not study for either mid-term or final exams, but they are solely evaluated through the outcome of their group projects.

In addition, groups of students who have successfully accomplished the course will obtain the opportunity to receive a reward from the Seoul Government. The selected groups will also travel to Hong Kong for five days and cooperate with students from the university of Hong Kong in order to try to solve the local problems that Hong Kong citizens confront. Therefore, this course will definitely expand the horizon of the students who are enrolled, and further give them valuable experiences that are only possible in this class. It is wonderful news that CAU is formulating lectures that actually involve experience and learning beyond the textbook contents.
