During childhood, many have tried pretending to be sick and visit health centers to get away with classes that they disliked. At the same time, health centers have been places to be freely visited for medical help. However, at university, people tend to rely on hospitals and pharmacies rather than health care services provided on campus. Many have spotted the Health Center, which was previously located on the first floor of Building 205, beside the Woori Bank ATMs. However, after its transference to Building 310 (B305), its unnoticeable location makes it hard for CAU members to recognize this institution. Liaising between Chung-Ang University and Chung-Ang Hospital, the Health Center insures professional medical services. Let’s learn more about the CAU Health Center!

Interview with faculty member of Health Center, Park Ju-Ok:
CAH: What kind of tasks are done at the Health Center?
Park: Park: Health Center is responsible for of students and faculty members of CAU’s health; organizes yearly medical checkup for anemia, blood pressure, cholesterol and competent of giving prescription, basic treatment. Occasionally, Chung-Ang Hospital’s specialists visit Health Center and give treatments and medical consultation from department of ophthalmology, urology, surgery, dermatology, psychiatry and otolaryngology. Except for doctor checkup from the department of psychiatry held on a monthly base, other checkups are taken once on a semester. Besides, for the betterment of healthy lifestyle, Health Center carry out clinic services for people deciding to quit smoking and bod type analysis for fit body. Every medical service provided is free of charge and reservations are necessary for consultation. During the CAU festival season, Health Center created a booth for AIDs examination and informed students about preventions for sexually transmitted disease. In addition, this place is not a hospital but a primary health center. If someone is feeling extremely ill and need to visit bigger hospital, CAU Health Center issues necessary medical treatment request forms for free.

CAH: Is there matters to be attended to when visiting Health Center?
Park: To identify yourself as a CAU member, be sure to bring along student ID card or call out your name and student number. Also, it is compulsory that the patient presents oneself. Please be aware that medicine prescription is limited for a day worth. If needed more, we are always open to offer more if necessary. 12pm to 13pm

CAH: As an institution, responsible for a “healthy CAU,” please describe what you are doing to get your message out to the CAU community.
Park: We are putting lot of effort to promote various programs assigned by Health Center through displaying banners and email delivery. I’m also concerned with the fact that many foreign students are not aware of these programs and experience difficulties with visiting hospital or buying medicine. I wish every member of CAU to strive for healthy life style and openly stop by for medical help or question to ask. Hundreds of student and faculty of CAU is occasionally visiting Health Center and I’ll actively greet with better health care services.

The CAU Health Center provides both physical and mental professional health care. Due to its transferred office location, many people, especially freshman students, might not have noticed the Health Center. However, if urgent health-related troubles arise or it is financially burdensome to get medical treatment elsewhere, preferentially go and see the friendly staff at the Health Center. If you are a member of CAU, CAH strongly recommends to openly visit the Health Center. After all, health comes before everything else!
