How much do you know about marijuana? Barack Obama stated that "I do not think marijuana is more dangerous than alcohol." Also, when Morgan Freema was giving a vote for marijuana, he states that "Marijuana alleviates serious seizures caused by epilepsy, allowing children to live again." The stereotype of marijuana as a drug has changed over time. This is because marijuana has more positive effects than negative effects on society. Thus, why does South Korea not consider about legalizing the marijuana? There are two main types of use for marijuana. Marijuana, which is also called cannabis, it is used either for medical use or recreational use. Whether for medical use or for recreational use, South Korea will experience significant positive effects on society if marijuana is legalized. To begin with, legalizing marijuana for medical purposes can help minimize the effects of a variety of diseases people are currently suffering from. This allows patients to relieve pain thus making their lives better and easier. To be specific, marijuana has proven to be effective, not only for medical pain relief, but also for a number of diseases: Alzheimer's (dementia), epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Did you know that marijuana also has low withdrawal symptom effects? Studies show that psychological dependence, which causes emotional and psychological discomfort or anxiety, is much lower than with caffeine. Since marijuana treats various cancers and diseases, it should be legalized for medical use in South Korea. On top of that, legalizing marijuana for recreational use will have a positive effect on the economy in South Korea. Today, the unemployment rate among young people is at a record high up to 9.9% and the total number of unemployed has increased by more than 10,000 since 2016. Especially, as far as the point of the increasing number of unemployed people is concerned, it is more than necessary to legalize marijuana for recreational use. This is because it can provide innumerable jobs to workers in general and many young people as well. Current situation in California, the government expects the labor marijuana industry to provide jobs for 100,000 workers across California. If marijuana is legalized for personal use in Korea, jobs can be created for many young people as well as unemployed people, making a better economy as a whole. Furthermore, a lot of people would also be qualified to sell marijuana as well. This will eventually enable numerous business to expand and exploit the businesses market. There is no doubt that legalizing marijuana in Korea would provide positive effects on society. It definitely has more positive effects than negative aspects, whether for medical use or recreational use. It is definite and clear that legalizing marijuana for medical use and for recreational use will make South Korea a more competitive country.
