Last month, there were a great deal of social issues and confusions that still keep us awake at night. What’s more, a new semester has started and some of the school services (new E-class and portal service, for example) have been revamped, causing the month of March to bring on a new set of obstacles. However, an issue that is not mentioned in this month’s article yet needs to be addressed is the “Me too” movement that hit headlines every day. Since new affairs are coming out repeatedly and changing all the time, I’d like to mention it briefly in this month’s editorial.

In fact, everybody sees the incident from different angles, as their experiences are all different, but one thing that we must make sure is that sexual harassment cannot be accepted in any other cases. Assailants cannot avoid the case by just running away, giving soulless apologizes, or even choosing death as an escape route. However, some say that “You (the victim) should have been careful and should resist at first.” It is not completely wrong, but this statement does not consider the overall surroundings. The social fabric and education might play as a big factor in this case. Assailants should learn and think more about what is right and wrong at each moment. The same applies to the potential assailants. They should change their thoughts and behaviors, by escaping from dangerous thoughts and adhesive social structure. Moreover, in my opinion, I think all of us should also have courage to raise our voice when we are faced with unwarrantable situation, regardless of gender. Everyone should have their own conviction before something happens. If we hide behind others, there will be no end to this cycle, not just in cases of indecency.

These big movements in the Korean society shows that there have been countless cases of injustices nowadays. This movement should not be distorted into radical feminism, gender revulsion, or be used as a political weapon. The case should be viewed as it is, considering social backgrounds and one should be allowed to express their own voice and square up to society.
