It is impossible to find the completely same person like you in the world. Some people wear glasses, others do not. Some are women, other are men. Some live in Seoul, others live in the provinces. All have their own characteristics in various sides. Frequently, I think we live in the world that we want to show off our characteristics to others by comparing each feature. Especially, the argument related to gender is constantly debated these days. Have you ever said the sentence starting with “Why are women or men so…?” and expressed your disgust at the opposite gender? What is the main cause of the aversion to the opposite gender? In the beginning, most countries had a patriarchal culture. Men had to be the head of a family, and women had to do the household work. It is a universal form of family. However, as society became more sophisticated and women began to go into the world, women achieved a right to speak in the society. There were some economic problems, so some men who felt the relative deprivation became the misogynists. While economic depression continued, men were losing chances to find jobs because more and more women were entering the workforce. For this reason, men made pejorative terms for women and negative opinions. They objected to the positive discrimination for women, because they thought it could cause reverse discrimination. The gender quota system, which makes corporations employ more than a certain percentage of women, is a representative example of positive discrimination. In this misogynic society, women begin to voice themselves. It appears in the form of male aversion. Resistance to misogyny, they created a word to claim misandry and made an issue of men’s behavior. Conflict occurred when the relationship between the opposite sexes shifted from vertical to horizontal. In the conflict, men and women are not trying to understand each other, and are having biased views and slandering each other due to gender differences only. Disliking breeds another disgust and this disgust will fill the world in which we live. If disgust for each other continues, our society will be filled with hatred and distrust. In this argument, one must even be careful to say, “Who is wrong?” and “What is wrong with them” The strategy that we find often in this disgust is to compare other nations’ men or women. It makes a prejudice that Korean men or women are abnormal and only have negative characteristics. What if, this aversion continues among people who are born and are living in the same country? I think this irrational execration should be eliminated.
