           One of the main arguments of people who agree with the reduction of the military service period is that it is essential to break away from the existing troop structure because military weapons have become high-tech due to the advent of the fourth industrial revolution. However, this is possible when most weapons are high-tech. The present government said they will make a “triaxial system” to protect the nation from North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats. But there is a problem. It is expected that only about 60 percent of this “triaxial system” will be completed by 2022. Also, how we import technology of developed countries to fill the gaps in military power caused by the reduction of the military service period transferred from abroad is another problem, so we can know it is not an easy problem to solve. Therefore, after fully equipped with advanced weapons, discussions about reducing the military service period should proceed in depth.

           Also, the reduction of the military service period is related to workmanship of solders. In this context, there are some arguments that the recruitment of non-commissioned officers and civilian workers in the military can fill the gaps in the military strength. When the opposition raised the question of budgets, the government announced they will turn the non-commissioned officers who are in charge of non-battle work into a combat force and then will increase the number of civilian workers in the military. Because, unlike non-commissioned officers who need to be provided with official residences and clothes by the government, civilian workers are only provided with salaries. However, the amount of money the government has to offer to civilian employees doesn’t come cheap. Therefore, it is necessary to thoroughly check the amount of budget that would be provided to the workforce.
