On April 5th, a special lecture was held by an art historian about Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele’s “Art Nouveau”. The art historian professor, An Hyeon-bae, from Sungkonghoe Univeristy, visited both Chung-Ang University’s Seoul and An-Seong Campuses to give the lecture on art and its history. The lecture mainly focused on the “1900 History and Culture of Vienna.” He started his lecture by explaining the word “Art Nouveau”, which is the new art. Next, he began to show beautiful pictures of art. “Art Nouveau” is an international style of art that was mostly popular between 1890 and 1910. This style of art and architecture was often applied with all the decorative arts and complex techniques of architecture. The “Art Nouveau” was inspired by the natural forms and structures such as curved lines of plants and flowers. This style firstly emerged in many countries in Europe. The art not only embraced a wide range of fine and decorative arts such as painting, graphic art and ceramics, but also included its culture. The lecturer successfully gave a powerful presentation about the history and culture of Vienna, which guided all the audience to deeply consider the importance of art and its history.
