What is the biggest worry for people in their 20s? As many people suspect, it is a matter of employment. The job market in South Korea has been frozen and the youth unemployment rate was 8.9% as of January 2019, up 1% from November 2018 and 0.3% from December. Under these circumstances, fairness has become even more important in recruitment of businesses or public institutions. Therefore, some opinions have been raised to root out corruption and increase fairness through the AI recruitment system. However, some people are negative about the new system because it is likely that the system will evaluate only the fragmentary aspects of applicants, rather than the overall appearance of applicants. It was also assessed that one option to increase fairness was perceived as another new system for applicants, which adds to their burden. Therefore, a wide-ranging debate on this issue is needed in society as a whole.
On February 20, the government announced the results of a full investigation into corruption in public institutions. The survey was conducted on a total of 1,205 organizations, and as a result, 182 cases were found; 36 of which were requested to be investigated, and the other 146 were to be punished or reprimanded. Such a large number of irregularities have been uncovered in just the investigation of public institutions alone. In addition, Lee Gwang-gu, a former chairman of Woori Bank, was sentenced to one and a half years in prison for hiring the children and relatives of high-ranking officials. Many things have become transparent, but many job scandals are still drawing attention as the worst employment shock ever. A fair AI system is necessary for both employers and employees in a situation where one cannot even get a job without a personal network.
First, the AI recruitment system is fair. Of course, people want to maintain maximum objectivity and undertake the process of interviewing or document screening. However, in the moment, one is likely to misjudge depending on the state of their feeling and fatigue. In addition, factors such as academic or blood ties may be used to determine applicants' abilities by distorting their interests when hiring. However, AI recruitment systems do not make mistakes that people make because they do not get tired. Unlike humans, the system does not think about the relationships between individuals unrelated to employment, so it can hire the people who can lead the organization without prejudice.
Second, the AI recruitment system is efficient. No matter how hard people work, all 24 hours cannot be fully immersed in the screening of documents. However, the AI recruitment system can review day and night, and the speed is much faster than that of humans. If such screening can be completed in a short time, a second and third round of inspections will also help detect errors in the recruitment process. Also, the AI recruiting system does not simply select people based on current information. Based on this person's data, if he or she is hired in the future, AI can even consider its impact on the company. The AI recruitment system, which can collect information that is unknown to humans, could change the job market.
Third, the AI recruitment system does not mean that everything is done with AI. When many people talk about the AI recruiting system, the most worrisome thing is that it is difficult to identify the atmosphere that people can feel when they communicate directly with one another. As many companies are aware of this, the AI recruitment system application is limited to document screening. This partial use of the AI recruiting system and interviews with personnel managers in real interviews will help people get rid of their concerns. And the fact that more corruption can occur through the system is a problem that exists in any recruitment system. Therefore, there is a contradiction in logic to say that corruption is a possible problem because of the AI recruitment system. Some argue that applicants may have a negative reaction to the recruitment system itself. This problem is a natural rejection by people when they introduce a new system. If large companies and state-run companies, which are popular with job seekers, introduce the AI recruitment system, the rejection of the AI recruitment system itself will gradually disappear.

So far, we have been in favor of the AI recruitment system due to fairness, efficiency, and usability. As Professor Heo Yeon of Chung-Ang University put it, new and old always clash with each other when technology improves. In the recruitment system, the present seems to be a transitional period in which new and old clash. We know that the recruitment system so far has been a hotbed of problems and many irregularities. However, fear of the unfamiliar existence of AI has made many applicants want to go back to the past. But by not understanding about the AI recruiting system exactly, running counter to the tide of the times just because you are not familiar with it will eventually lead to the weakening of national competitiveness and slow down the development of technology.
