The “Conversation with the Author” lecture, held by the Chung-Ang University Central Library of Seoul Campus, took place on November 7th. The author of the event was Kim Soo-hyeon, who introduced her book, <I Decided to Live as I am>. As can be seen from the title of the book, her lecture was focused on self-reflection. While reflecting on her own life, the writer Kim told participants that the most difficult obstacle to overcome is impatience. Many are pressured to move on rapidly and feel burdened to move on to the next step of their life. Kim, too, published her first book in two months while she felt most pressured to move on. At the time, she wrote the book in one month and drew the book’s illustrations in one month. She did so because she regretted at the time that she had aged too much to have published the first work at the time. However, impatience deprived her of the chance to pursue goals which need long-run perspectives. Once she realized that, she decided to drop her impatient attitude and pay attention to what she really wants. <I Decided to Live as I am> is the result of her self-reflection on how to develop self-esteem. Specifically, the book speculates on three areas. Career path, self-esteem and human relations, combining all these factors, writer Kim introduces her own way of loving oneself and being oneself.
