Did you know that there are spaces at Chung-Ang University where your creativity can be fully explored? These include Creative Studio, Creative Complex, and Creative Factory. The main purpose of these creating creative spaces is to cultivate start-up talents and strengthen students' entrepreneurship capabilities through practice of start-up ideas and various creative programs. The CAH wants to elaborate on each of the creative spaces. If you are interested in starting a business or have a brilliant idea, pay attention to this article!
The first space is Creative Studio, located in B106 of the 102 building on the Seoul campus. It is a space that induces students' ideas to be discovered and helps them in this regard. The space was set up after cooperation between Chung-Ang University's LINC project to foster leading universities for industry-academic cooperation and Google, a global creative company. On September 26th, 2014, a ceremony was held to declare cooperation for the establishment and operation of CAU Creative Studio. It drew much attention in that Google collaborated with Korean local universities for the first time to foster content experts. Kim Tae-won, executive director of Google Korea, supported the operation of Creative Studio by holding a special lecture on creative convergence and future design to provide educational content and by holding a capstone design camp. Chung-Ang University promised to provide culture and arts education to help develop students' creativity. In fact, on December 27th last year, the LINC Business Group of Chung-Ang University held the ‘2019 CAU LINC+ Festival’ to share the achievements of students' industry-academic cooperation education over the year and also provided employment and start-up consulting to students.
The second space is Creative Factory located on the first floor of the Pyeongdong campus. The aforementioned Creative Studio is a space for creative education, and the Creative Factory serves as a workshop to actually produce products based on that education and to help shape ideas. The Creative Factory is equipped with major machining equipment such as 3D printers and laser cutting machines, allowing students to have a chance to practice making their own prototypes. It also has separate lecture facilities and a space for team projects. In the space, students can not only receive education on planning and design, but also hold meetings during the prototyping process. In order to utilize this Creative Factory as a space for discovering and supporting creative ideas with global companies, the LINC Business Group of Chung-Ang University signed a business agreement with Eastman, Autodesk, Woori Lighting Company, and the Korea Creative Content Agency.
The final space is Creative Complex, located on the second floor of the 310 building on the Seoul campus. In addition to education and practice, this is a good place to work on a start-ups. In order to take advantage of the space, it is necessary to go through the process of selecting tenants. The selection process will be conducted through a written evaluation of the project plan and a face-to-face evaluation of the presentation. The 2020 Creative Complex tenant recruitment was conducted between March 27th and April 22nd. According to the recruitment criteria, only early start-up companies with less than three years of experience, where Chung-Ang University students are representatives, are eligible to apply. Selected companies can use the space of Creative Complex's 'Start-up Zone' for up to a year and enjoy free office rent and public utility charges. If you are a convergence major in start-up studies, a participant in the LINC+ start-up program, or a person who holds patent rights related to start-ups, additional points will be granted.
Do you want to know how to use the other two spaces other than Creative Complex? In order to use these two places, and to receive start-up education and practice here, separate applications and qualifications are also required. If you apply for a program you want from the field practice integrated management system (placement.cau.ac.kr), you can participate in full-scale training and industry-academic cooperation internships. At this time, applicants must be third year or higher Chung-Ang University students. If you complete practice or internship activities for a certain period of time, you can receive subsidies and earn credits. Various information such as recruitment period, completion classification, and number of applications for each program is available on the website of Chung-Ang University's Industrial-Academic Cooperation Group, so please refer to this website for more information.
In this article, we learned about three creative spaces that actively support start-ups based on students' abundant creativity. In addition to these, Chung-Ang University has several spaces that can satisfy students' diverse needs. Therefore, CAH recommends that you pay attention to the spaces located throughout Chung-Ang University and visit them in person. They will give you useful advice and practical help!
