As terms to election, November, all university spent Nov. noisily for election of a general school association and a college. Also CAU finished November, completing the competition between 'The First' and 'the power of Euihyul'. The election of this year was progressed intensely as showing student-activist(s-a) vs non-student-activist(n-s-a). While recently years, A big issue in election of a general school association is this competition. In this year, CAU jump into the middle of this issue as 'The First' run for election standing that they are n-s-a at first.
Until mid 90s', it was natural that activist student was elected as a president of whole student. the university students made a association for expression their political conference and they developed a struggle with this association. Among this association the biggest is 'Han-chong-ryun'(HCR) as we well known.
But they progressed excessive struggles which can't speak for whole university student, under a good name that is 'Whole association of Korea University students'. And these activity caused social confusion, so they drifted father and father from students. And they can't pace with a flow of a period, remove waste of past struggle so they are turn away even a general student association.
But I don't want to tell you antipathy or criticism about 'HCR'. I want to assert that it is undesirable what a general school association active as 'HCR' or other dissident association.
We can think a position as a president of whole student that she/he is a public service personnel for students. Because they have same business with a public servant who works for people through making a policy and enforcing, like them they have to that for students. Of course he/she has a duty to do political activity as spoken man of students when if whole student gather their mind for acting. But it is undesirable that they are active in political parts depend on themselves political belief, at least when they are in service. If they shout their individual opinion and the basis of HCR without supporting of students because of just they joined 'HCR' that it is to show their back to students who believed them.
Students become different as compare with past, too. These days students want truly what a student body makes welfare higher than now and promotes practical business of inner school. It already makes exhausted students that a general school association makes a massive agreement lacked practical effect. At a research of The Chungdae Sinmun, we can see that students want how activity of a general school association is changed. The research about their activity is resulted that 59.1% of student want to make high students' welfare and 12.8% of student want to make healthy study environment through a student body.
Not yet, anything isn't decided and started. But at least, I ask to all candidate of a student body to try knowing these students' voice which we want a working association. Just then, they said to us that they will be a working general school association. There is no choice except to hold their hands. But I trust. It is that they, either s-a or n-s-a, will send next year only for students who believed them.
