Some days ago, people could read an interesting article. The content was that Seoul University has turned out many students who have a doctor's degree from America at the head in the world with the exception of American universitis. After this article was published, 'Sisa journal' and 'Snunow', the internet news service of Seoul University, researched how many professors of Seoul University have a doctor's degree from America. As a result, it is mentioned that 1635 among 1711 Seoul University's professors on the active list  have a doctor's degree from a foreign country. Also in case of another universities, there are many professors who have a doctor's degree over 70%. If this situation is true, where are so many doctors  who have a doctor's degree from home?

 An inspection of the adminstration data carried the rate of appointment of full time professors. US professors appointing rate is 77.6%, the highest rate. However domestic professors appointing rate is 57.8% at the bottom, still more, domestic professors are pushed from another doctors from Japan and Europe. And domestic doctors have a longer term to stand on a lecture platform (36 months) than a US doctor (18 months).
 Also if we hear about the Korean stem cell pioneer Hwang Woo-suk's story to be a professor, we can know how difficult it is to become a professor as a domestic doctor. After he completed a doctoral course, his guidance professor registered him on a list of names to appoint as professors of Seoul University. But accidently his guidance professor left university after he drank a bitter cup. From then he went to a university as a lecturer although now he became a professor at Seoul University. Through this story, we have to think of the distinction between domestic doctors and foreign doctors in other words, whether they studied abroad or not. But we shouldn't overlook that factually domestic doctors are behind in comparison with foreign doctors. So, we must discuss not how we could make high rates in part of appointing domestic doctors as professors but how we could make high quality domestic doctors.   

Question 1 : what is the problem of the domestic postgraduate schools?

 There is nothing more to know about that reason if we know about the curriculum. The curriculum is constituted as a similar course and contents to the undergraduate program, even if the level is similar or a little higher.
 Prof. Huh Hyung, the president of the CAU graduate schools gave three reasons. first, the domestic graduate school has low quantity and quality to be a professor. Second, the management system of the graduate schools is not efficient. Last, there are not many programs for students to achieve their objectives.

Question 2 : In the past, our scholarly attaintment was very low and had a deep gap compared with foreign study.  So, we studied abroad to close the gap. However, does a deep gap still exist now?

 In the case of the science & engineer field, there was a certainly qualitative gap in the study environment, stored learning result and so on. But the social sciences and the cultural sciences are different from the science and engineer field. Those can be developed with just our efforts if there are covered scholarly organizations and natural features. But Koreans can't make the base because we didn't research positively and didn't analyse about many problems that Korea faced.

Then, what are some solutions?

Solution 1 : effort from the doctor himself.  
 Prof. Huh Hyung said a selection basis is the number of thesis. Therefore doctors should not neglect their research and produce results through their thesis.

Solution 2 : an effort from the education authorities and graduate school official quarters. 
 The Education Ministry has to give many self_control rights to graduate schools. But as much as they give big rights they must convince the graduate schools of their responsibility by revealing each school's educational achievement for example, the present condition about how many people came forward in success classified by major and academic degree, the present status employment, the present situation entering upon studies, the research result. Also, in this country, so many graduate schools are exist. Therefore, as a first step for schools to make high quality, the Education Ministry must carry out te restructuring of graduate schools.
 The graduate school side should develop a new educational curriculum and make various systems to manage students. In the case of foreign graduate schools, when a student enters a school, he/she has an interview with the community. The community consists of about five members to help the student, advise him/her, and control the student's  course of study.      
 
Solution 3 : an effort from the students.  
 First of all, they have to investigate specificity and a bright prospect  to select major oneself. Students must make themselves so that they can read and write in academic journals quite freely. To do it, the most important thing is to have a good command of English themselves.

 This article described how people can pull up the  domestic doctor's qualitative competitive power. To achieve that objective, the students,? the government,? and the graduate school's steering committee should find other solutions and accomplish those solutions.

Among CAU students, many students consider entering a CAU graduate school. For you stay as the graduate school president, how do you want to improve the CAU graduate schools?

Huh Hyung  : I have many plans. And I firmly believe these plans will make our school change.

First, Developing a man-to-man educational system Professional education needs to be fitted to job employment and scholastic approval.  The graduate school would be managing man-to-man education in order to satisfy diverse courses and up-to-date corporal education. The school already got in touch with 10 upper companies. It would help students achieve the work they want. 

Second, Consider the students' employment and path through connecting the related scholarship between the Seoul campus and the Anseong campus.

Third, Prepare a flowing education curriculum. We must develop the majors and departments which many students ignore.

Forth, Enforce the study methodology for students to write many academic essays.

Fifth, Make students use a foreign language well. Emphasize statistics in the case of the social science field.

Sixth, Have the members of the graduate committee equal to the president of the department.

Seventh, Found a developing committee for CAU to make a unique education form as CAU graduate school.
