Wow~ The new semester has started. How do you feel? Maybe all of you begin your first semester of the year 2005 with joy. But you can feel a little boredom due to having so much free time. So, CAH will let you know o some fun places to go. But the following places have one characteristic in common. Guess what? The answer will follow right after introducing all the places.
Maybe all of you have longed for 'fun'; in Korean 'ze-mi'. You know what? There's Oh~zemidong in  Chungmuro station. You may already think it must be what kind of place when you consider that it is located in Chungmuro. Yes, it's related to videos. But as well as seeing videos, you can do many more things.  Ohzemidong consists of 5 'dongs'. Now let's look all over all 5 dongs of ohzemidong.

First, zemi 1 dong is a library. You can look at many books and magazines without charge. And you can read not only Korean magazines but also foreign magazines. And there is an audio set which you can listen to whenever you want.
Second, in zemi 2 dong, you can see many common videos. Also, it's a video room where you can watch documentaries and music videos. It has a variety of videos so you can enjoy rare and precious movies.
Zemi 3 dong is the kind of work place where you can make your own videos. Furthermore, you can edit them by using cameras and other devices. It only costs 1000 won to do everything.
Zemi 4 dong is a theater. From the 18th of Febrary to the 25th, special Italian movies were exhibited. Before you go there, you'd better check the movies shown on the Internet.
Last, zemi 5 dong is a resting place to chat with your friends and share foods.
Seo Su-min, the curator of Ohzemidong, said "Ohzemidong is sponsored by the Seoul Metropolitan government. Its intention is to feel 'new culture' in the place of the station. And we also opened a photoshop or premiere utility course. In one word, Ohzemidong is the playground of culture."
Very similiar to Ohzemidong but adding artistic factors, Heyri village has appeared. Along the Imjin river, Heyri is located in Paju city, one of the most northern parts of South Korea. It's even closer to Gae-sung than Seoul.
Heyri Art Valley is like one town whose residents are artists such as poets, novelists, photographers and fine artists. They got together and established Heyri Art Valley.
The houses in Heyri can be used as work places, shops and restaurants. CAH interviewed Yun Sung-taek, the director of public relations of Heyri. Asked what the most characteristic thing of Heyri Art Valley is, he answered "We really think highly of the harmony with artificial things with nature, so we have already had strict building standards before being under construction. For instance, we don't allow buildings higher than three stories because it can block the visual field. Furthermore, we just leave a swamp as it is and we pave streets with side walks instead of asphalt. And we think painting is like make-up so most of buildings are not painted." He also explained the second characteristics saying "Heyri Art Valley is the first place that tries 'production, consumption and selling' simultaneously. As you know, In-sa dong which is well known for traditional things usually closes at night. The hosts all go back to their home. There are only consumption and sales. But here in Heyri, most artists reside in Heyri and they produce works on the while. They sell them to the visitors or exhibit them in galleries. And this can increase the communication between artists and visitors. Some galleries holds classes for visitors to learn about how to make the artistic works. "

He recommended some places to go for CAU students. 93 museum exhibits portraits of people from the Chosun dynasty to the modern age. It also contains Chinese officials of Myung, Chung Age as well as erotic and nude pictures.
It can also be a good place for university students who are interested in old books. Book cafe Bandi contains many sorts of books from English novels to Korean poems which Lee Jong-ok, a famous literary man, collected.
'DDalgiga joa' is a place to go to the  world of the child's mind. And in the 'Moa gallery', you can see photos and sketches by Architect Woo Kyung Kook. Also, you will be charmed by the interior design of 'Hangil Book House' as well as its many books.
Last, for those who are tired of normal pubs, 'Gongjja Bar' can be an interesting place. Adding to the concept of spa, the bar became a famous place in Kangnam. Lim Jae-kyun (mechanical engineering, 04) said "I didn't know this kind of bar exists until my girlfriend tell me about it. Well, I think this bar is very different from common bars and feels so good because I can dip my feet in the spa drinking alcohols. Whenever you want a comfortable place with your friends drinking beers, this place would be very good."
Then did you find the answer? The answer is the concept of 'mix'. Theater plus work room plus shop plus... These days one space is not used only for one purpose. Space can be reborn out of our imagination. And such a reborn space satisfies our eyes and minds. Creativeness and novelty can stimulate our senses and make boredom go away.
I hope you all love the new concept of mixed spaces above!
