When you look around recent art exhibitions <Millet, Corot and Pleides of Barbizon School>, <Encounter With Modernism, from Picaso to Baek Nam-jun>, <400years of Western Art from Poussin to Matisse> etc, you can see 'Modern art' and 'Western art' displayed in most exhibition.There are only a few 'Korean art' exhibitions. We can see 'Modern art' and 'Western art' frequently even on home appliances. Mondrian's art piece <Composition with Red, Blue and Yellow> was used to design air conditioners. 'Western art' is being used in many different fields.

On the other hand, 'Korean art' is rarely being used in common life. This means that people's preference of 'Korean art' is low. In this atmosphere, 'Kumho museum of art' has 'Jipilmuk nol-i  art museum' which exhibits 'Korean art', especially for children.

'Jipilmuk nol-i art museum' is displayed for Children for direct experience of 'Korean art'. The Planner of this exhibition, Kim Yoo-seok, said the planning purpose is to inform the audience about 'Korean art' and to make people think about 'Korean art'. 'jipilmuk nol-i art museum' exhibits on 3 floors. This exhibition starts from second floor. The Second floor consists of two parts, <Aha, Our Picture> and <Our Picture, Our Material>. In first floor, there is <Little Theater of Our Picture>. And finally, the first basement is constitute of <Jipilmuk Playground> and <Black and White drawing which I Draw>.

 In <Aha, Our Picture>, you can see 'Our art', which you have never seen before. Seo Hui-hwa's Jang Saeng expressed one scene of 'Traditional picture' in three dimensions by material which we use in common. It is composed of 'Crane' which has wings made of yogurt cans, 'Sun' which is made with plastic covers, and another 'Crane' which has neck made of a  drainpipe of a washing machine and so on..

In the mean time, Seo Eun-ae's art pieces which express our traditional image by modern style captured the attention of spectators. Who can think ugly woman Chun-hyang drown in the three pi, and ugly man Mong-ryong drown in the ssang pi. <Hawaryongjeomjeong> which expressedHwaryongjeomjeong one of the 'Ancient phrases' also makes people smile.

Kim Seon-du' s art pieces are very unique. Because these are three dimensions pictures modified traditional black and white drawing on paper to modern style on stainless steel. In paper picture, filled part is picture and unfilled part is space. But Kim Seon-du's art piece are opposite of that. In this piece, the empty part is a picture.

A spectator Beak Myeong-suk who came with her little daughter said "In a different vain of common 'Korean art', this exhibition is not boring and pieces have simple and easy matter, so it is funny and easy to see."

 In Last part of second floor, <Our Picture, Our Material>, there are pieces, Jo hwan's <The Rainy Season> and <Midnight of Life>, which show modern content by traditional material. On the other hand, there are pieces, Seo yong's Sanggubori Hawajungsaeng and Kim Hyeon-cheol's Yeongchunjesaek,<Seol-Ak Mountain>, which shows pictures not only painted on Korean paper, but also painted on Walls, Sambae and Silk. 

 In first floor, you can see 4 different 'Black and white drawing' animations. 'Black and white drawing' animations give you unique feeling from simple 'Black and white drawing' animations. Because spectators see animation on a straw mat, it gives a different feeling. Among 4 animations, Gwon Gi-su's <Plum Blossoms around a Cottage - Visiting a Friend on a Snowy Day> having cute character Dongguri captures the attention of spectators. In back ground of 'Black and white drawing', Dongguri pop up with dog. It seems that naughty boy enters 'Korean Picture' secretly. In this animation, after fallen snow, the tree looks like flowers. It is fantastic.

On the Final floor, the first basement is the most popular floor.  You can see paper skeletons which ride brush occupying ceiling and a maze which introduces tigers in traditional pictures, which is popular with children. But most popular thing is Yun Gu-sang's <Our pictures draw on sand>. In this piece, children can draw 'Korean Pictures' using different shaped plastic brushes. Children are delighted with drawing orchids and 'Landscape painting' on the sand.

After <Jipilmuk Playground>, you can experience <Black and White Drawing> children can draw picture on Korean paper with brushes. Until that day, children used solid pens. So when they hold a brush and draw picture on Korean paper, they were amused at the waves of the brush. Professional instructors teach children carefully. Participants can bring pictures and fans made themselves. The pictures, hanging in the workshop room were very good and more variety than picture drew by crayon. Housewife Kim Myeong-suk, whose daughter participated workshop, said "This exhibition was not just for seeing pictures, but also experiencing Korean Pictures. So it can understand easily to children. It was also very good chance to know Jipilmuk"

In this exhibition, you cannot find boring and hard to understand 'Korean Pictures'. It is because this show came close to the spectators 'experience'. Experience is the most important factor of this exhibition.

The Planner Kim Yoo-seok said that it is a "child-exhibition." "It is because, if we plan an exhibition for adults, children will be excluded. But if we said the exhibition is 'For children', parents also can come and see the exhibition." Surely, the gallery and the art museum's vigorous art education programs are important, but the planner said that there is no system, which is more systematic and powerful than education. So the education system must change for children to feel and experience 'Korean Pictures'.        

'Korean Pictures' is not boring. However, the museum just follows traditional method and people can't approach to 'Korean Picture' because of stereotype. Therefore the 'Korean art community' have to communicate to spectators in new ways and spectators also throw out the stereotype about 'Korean Pictures' and come to it more closely .

"In fact, <Jipilmuk Nol-i art museum> is being discussed with French commissioners for a toured exhibit. It will be realized after 2~3years, if it is possible." said planner Kim Yoo-Seok. This exhibition is profitable and easy to show 'Korean Pictures' not only to Koreans, but also to foreigners. Therefore, if this exhibition is displayed in the world stage, we can declare the excellence of 'Korean Pictures'.
