A big senior band of these days, underground rock-music band ‘Crying Nut (Vocalist: Park Yoon-sik, Guitarist: Lee Sang-myun, Bassist: Han Kyung-rock, Drummer: Lee Sang-hyuk, Keyboardist: Kim In-soo)’, is busy due to the replacement of the movie <Shim’s Family> .They sang main theme song of movie. In the vortex of busy work, The Chung-Ang Herald (CAH) met Crying Nut in a basement practice room which is near the Hong-ik University.
CAH: You guys had sung a main theme song of movie <Shim’s Family> which was released on February 28 (Musai Film, director Jung Yoon-chul) and showed surprising performance for public. What is the reason of joining hands with works of movie? Why did you want to be underground band?
CN: The underground band makes music which is not formal. When you see its lyrics, the words of the song are more various and extraordinary than existing over ground bands. Therefore, the theme song seems to go well with the movie. Director tried to choose good song which fits to his movie after shooting. Therefore, our song was chosen by him and we chose him. It was nice to get with the actors and actresses while we were working at the film music scene. Hwang Bo-ra who appeared on the movie <Shim’s Family> drops by in our club from time to time.
CAH: TJ Media, a professional karaoke enterprise, conducted a survey to 400 members of karaoke internet club asking their favorite five singers and songs. ‘Let’s Ride A Horse’ which is one of ‘Crying Nut’ songs was singled out for their number one song when they need to get rid of stress. Congratulations! (CN: Thank you!) Then, what are you guys’ favorite songs and what songs do you want to listen when you are stressed out?
CN: We have so many gigs; rock concerts, therefore, we sing our songs a lot when we are stressed out. In fact, we do not go to karaoke that much. However, when we go there we sing Korean old pop songs mostly. I can’t remember exactly, but Kim In-soo who is the member of band said I sang an old Korean pop song called ‘Come back to Sorrento’ when I was drunk. (Han Kyung-rock) I sing ‘Unconditional’ by Korean trot singer Park Sang-chul. (Park Yoon-sik) I listen to Irish folk music and the Beetles’ songs. (Lee Sang-myun) I rarely listen to music when I am stressed out. (Lee Sang-hyuk)
CAH: There were several changes in your songs, before joining the army and after discharging. Did an army life change your musical propensity?
CN: It is true that we changed our music slightly. However, we did not do intentionally. We had dealt with jazz and classic music through the military band. However, we still have same power of rock music spirit as ten years ago.
CAH: The underground rock-music band has grown as time goes by. What kind of junior rock band are you looking forward to?
CN: So many talented bands are appearing on the stage nowadays. We just want them to be introduced to people a lot as The Rock Tigers, The Moon Shiners, Kingston Rudieska, and Rux which are famous. Well, they have to do their best to attract people. The Chung-Ang students! Please love Korean underground music and listen to their songs a lot!
