"The 6th Annual Shift U Film Festival” will be sponsored by Chung-Ang University , and the Department of Mass Communication will be the superintendent.

“The 6th Annual Shift U Film Festival” will be held this coming September 4-6. The Shift U film festival, which started in 2002, is now in its 6th year, and this year’s motto is ‘REC●&ROLL’. This festival is held every year so that young film students, who are usually referred to as the digital film generation, have an opportunity to actively participate in the development and creation of a film culture. ‘REC●&ROLL’ which is the 6th Shift U film Festival motto is a phrase which is transformed from ‘ROCK&ROLL’, it emphasizes that film is not only shooting and seeing for enjoyment, but also the ‘enjoyment’ of hearing, like music, which is so popular to youth.

Lately, film mediums have provided a very charming channel for youth expression, especially those who have a powerful desire to express themselves. However, this medium is insufficient for most youth to make films actively, due to the costs of constructing sets, lack of mentorship and collaboration with others, who are interested in film art. In this situation, the Shift U Film Festival wants to be the spot, where youths can satisfy and diffuse such youthful desires. A place where they can construct shooting places, where youth can shoot film, and they can share information and enjoy working together.

This year the Shift U film festival will have access and operate at the outer screen show in Yongsan CGV, many people can enjoy films together and exhibitors have a chance to present their achievements in a movie theater.

Chung-Ang University’s Mass Communications Department has aspirations for this festival. They are to establish a certain process to cultivate creative broadcasting people of the future by encouraging teenagers countrywide, and university students to participate in this annual event.

A preview will be held in Chung-Ang University’s Art Center and at Yongsan’s CGV on the 4th to 5th of September. Then a Ceremony of Awards and Prizes will be held in the CAU Art Center on the festival’s last day, September 6th.

The Director, who will be granted a prize for the teenager category, will have an opportunity to apply for special film entrance exam for the Department of Mass Communications. Also Shift U planners will work out various programs and experiences, which allure teenagers, who hope to be preliminary journalists.
