National Piano Competition at Chung-Ang University

From September 30th to October 2nd, the Music department of Chung-ang University held ‘the 10th national piano competition’ at in the art center. Many students wishing to be Korea’s next top pianist gathered. This competition was divided into 3 different groups-Elementary school, middle school and high school. On the first and second day, which held the preliminary rounds, there were tensions were high among the participants. On the last day which heldduring the final round, tensions among participants made the nervous atmosphere around the hallwas palpable.
On During the final round, starting from with fifth graders, the lucky finalists all gathered to perform their best. Elementary school finalists started the competition. Most of them performed their best, but there were some students who were too nervous on stage to perform. Especially the third grade participant who, was the only finalist of thefrom the third grade, made a big mistake during the performance which led to no award for third graderput him out of the competition. Ten sixth grade finalists closed the first part of the competition with wonderful performances. After a short break, the second part which was a the middle school participants’ final round started. The Middle middle school finalists seemed more nervous than the elementary school participants. One participant practiced his fingering on the stage while waiting for his turn. None of the finalists in middle school made a big mistake that would affect their score, and the judges chose Choi Ha-yerin’s performance as the best among them all.
The Third third part of the competition which is the highlight was a the high school participants’ final round. All Even the audiences and even judges seemed really nervous. Some parents couldn’t go into the hall because they were afraid to see his or /her child’s performance. Most high school finalists performed like a professional pianist. They didn’t seem nervous but all of their faces had were determination. They all performed well on the stage, and the judges decided on Kim Chae-young to be the winner. After the competition there were lots of tears of joy, relief, and regret and etc. Overall all the participants put their passion and soul into the 3 three minutes performances and the judges were glad to see the future passionate pianists on during the competition.
