On February 2nd, Seo Hyun-jae, a vice president of arts and social science department, expressed his intention to resign and was relieved of his post at his own request. To trace a matter to its source, Seo might have been urged to step down after requesting disciplinary action towards one of the professors who sent a criticizing e-mail to him. On January, Seo sent New Year’s greetings e-mails to all the professors. One of the professors of the college of education replied the e-mail that sounded to be denouncing him. The problem was that the professor mistakenly sent the e-mail to all the other professors of arts and social science department. The professor was brought to a disciplinary committee due to the reasons that he did not keep his dignity as a professor and defamed other professors as well. However, the investigative committee demanded Seo to dismiss the professor and step down from a vice president position.

What the investigative committee claimed was that Seo had not have enough time to communicate with other professors and his demand seemed coercive. Even though the professor who sent the e-mail to all the professors by mistake has apologized to all the professors, Seo continuously demanded to exert a disciplinary action. Many professors assert that this happening was due to the lack of communication and undemocratic process of decision making. As a result, Shin Gwang-young, a professor of the department of sociology, was elected as a new vice president of arts and social science department. He stated that he would put as much effort as possible to make communication flow well so that there would be no more controversy regarding communication.
