Imagine! You have just arrived at a peaceful beach. Everyone except you is all naked. Would you take off your clothes and enjoy sunbathing or swimming? Or would you play with a beach ball by throwing it to each other with no shame? This situation throws you into confusion if you have never heard of a ‘Nude beach’. In a ‘Nude beach’, being naked in front of others is nothing to be ashamed of.

A nude beach, which often called as clothing-optional beach or free beach, is a beach where people legally don’t have to wear any clothes. The beaches are usually on public lands and anyone can use the beach facilities anonymously. Compared to the regular beaches, nude beaches are relatively far away from the cities and are more difficult to access. Nude beaches first became popular in the 1950s along the French coast. There are about 1,300 nude beaches in the world.

l          Effects of the nude beaches

There are some positive effects of the nude beaches. First, it provides the place where you can be legally at liberty to be nude. Secondly, it is the place where you can avoid the heat. Sometimes, people suffer from the extremely hot weather. People overcome the heat by taking off their clothes at the beach. Lastly, it provides the intake of vitamin D by sunbathing all your body.

However, there are also negative effects. You are exposed to danger if you overdose on vitamin D. As an illustration, if your body is exposed to too much sunlight, it is possible to get skin cancer or lose your eyesight. Moreover, problems occur related to sex. The most serious problem is that people can contract VD (venereal diseases) because they can be infected and polluted by bacteria. Another serious problem is that it arouses sexual harassment and sexual violence.

In 1950, one local tourism organization provided gymnosophist with safe lodging, and this place became one of the locations for gymnosophy movements. ‘Hedonism’, Negril, Jamaica has been a nude-only resort for gymnosophists since 1976. This resort ‘Hedonism’, meaning that pleasure is the only intrinsic good, has bosky ‘Hedonism 2’ and ‘Hedonism 3’ decorated as an oasis. Since nudity in the public place is illegal in Jamaica, the resort only allows the nudity to attract tourists.

l          A nude beach in Korea!?

Jeju Special Self-Governing Province was pushing ahead with opening nude beaches in Hamdeok beach, Jeju Island. This plan was divided pro and contra. Advocates claimed that Jeju Island would become a specific tourism destination by making nude beaches. However, opponents argued that it is improper plan for the tradition of Jeju Island. They added that it would bring negative effects on children’s education. Consequently, Jeju Island decided to call a halt to the nude beaches. In foreign countries, however, nude beaches are common place for children and elders. They do not care about other people, but simply enjoy the naked sunbathing.

Nude beaches are one of the cultures in the world. Why don’t you enjoy sunbathing or swimming on nude beaches? It would be a great experience for you to be naked.
