Have you heard the saying “People believe what they want to believe, not necessarily the truth.”? Nowadays it is an appropriate expression to explain a lot of Koreans’ thinking in a sea of information. There are a lot of news stories of Choi Soon-sil’s government administration monopoly situation every day. This background made Koreans confused and difficult for them to recognize what is truth because a lot of fake news has been broadcasted through the internet. Furthermore, most people can encounter fake information through SNS or Kakaotalk easily, making for fake news confusion in succession. The spread of fake news is a serious social problem to Koreans who are facing an early presidential election and new political situation. The reason why the spread of fake news stories is a social problem is that they can stir up the popular passion in the wrong way. It is not hard to find the presence of fake news nowadays because any one can spread wrong information. However, Koreans have a problem that they usually choose news stories that coincide with their personal information or beliefs and deny other true news stories. Ordinarily, the press chose topics with stimulating materials that could attract people to click. Many Koreans who are attracted to these kind of headlines click news which coincide with their beliefs. Also, they think that information heard a lot is right and it can be continued to instigation. Furthermore, Koreans’ attitude that they do not acknowledge that information they saw as fake is also a problem of this phenomenon. Koreans should delete fake postings or information after they realized that they are fake news to prevent the spread of fake news. The sea of information preexists, but the improvement of Koreans’ attitude toward information should have light shed upon it as social confusion due to fake news stories has appeared. Koreans should keep in mind that their actions of spreading fake news can make others to incite a rebellion. Also, Koreans should have wariness to new information and acknowledge that any information can be fake news. Usually, many Koreans can be attracted to news that coincides with their own beliefs, not necessarily the truth. A more careful attitude toward a lot of information is required for Koreans who are overcoming national confusion.
