These days, numerous young children go to English kindergarten schools before they even enter elementary school. This trend or phenomenon started to occur as parents started to become more obsessed with English language education. As demand increased towards expanding the amount of English kindergarten schools, the number of English kindergarten schools increased dramatically. Thus, going to English kindergarten at an early age became the norm in Korean society. However, this occurrence is not an appropriate approach from various perspectives. This is because it will eventually not only lead to more severe polarization of wealth and education, but also to the loss of the importance of learning the social code of manner education. Firstly, when it comes to considering so far as the severe polarization in education and wealth is concerned, expanding or establishing more English kindergarten schools should be prevented. Today, numerous young children learn English in early childhood by attending English kindergarten school. The problem is that these English kindergarten schools are very expensive. Thus, sending one’s sons or daughters to an English kindergarten school is limited to high class family children. However, regardless of the class a family is in, all parents send their kids to English kindergarten schools. So, even the low middle class and low- class families are biting off more than they can chew. All parents are overworking just to send their kids to English kindergarten schools. It is true that, there are a lot of cheaper English kindergarten schools in Korea, however, the problem exists because there are many expensive English schools as well. As a result, our society will have an even more wider polarization of education since our society emphasizes the importance of educational background. Secondly, as far as the development stage for preschoolers is concerned, going to English kindergarten school is unsuitable. Especially for young kids, it is crucial to learn the social code of manners. However, numerous parents are only focusing on their kids’ educations too much. Thus, the importance of learning etiquette, responsibility, leadership, and manners has decreased over time. Thus, young kids are currently learning English first rather than the social code of conduct that is essential when they are out in public. It is true that kids do learn all of these manners as well at English kindergarten schools from their teachers. However, it would be different from learning it from their teachers and their parents. Therefore, both parents and children should be more focused on learning these significant manners as their priority. Considering both perspectives, increasing the amount English kindergarten schools is unnecessary. English kindergarten schools give great opportunities for children to learn their second language at an early age. However, when it comes to weighing the importance from various views, expanding English kindergarten school in Korea not only gives the wider polarization in terms of education, but also contributes to the unsuitable development for young kids. Perhaps, it is time for our society to change from focusing so much on education to focusing on the social code of manners.
