Chemistry & Chemical Engineering and Materials Science Convergence Research Team in Chung-Ang University was selected for the new R&D project of ‘Carbon to X Technology Development Enterprise for the Production of Useful Materials’ hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT. The National Research Foundation of Korea revealed that CAU team’s project ‘Development of CO2 Simultaneous Collection-Transition Formic Acid Manufacturing Technology’ has been selected as one of the overall tasks of the Carbon to X research group. The empirical research of the task is presided over by Chung-Ang University, and the professor of the Chemistry Department Yoon Sung-ho and the professor of the Chemical Engineering and Material Science Department Lee Chul-jin will participate in. This project aims to develop an empirical technology that converts carbon dioxide that is recognized as a major cause of climate change into a useful substance 'formic aid' by chemical methods. If the existing formic acid manufacturing technology is replaced with this technology, about 800,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced annually in the global formic acid market, and about 55,000 tons of carbon dioxide reduction effect will be shown in Korea in 2030. CAH hopes that Chung-Ang University can be the driving force to make a good environmental change in the world and make the society a better place to live.
