Have you heard about Capstone Design? It’s included in the Chung-Ang University Industry Academic Cooperation Foundation’s student start-up, practice, and industry-academic linkage education. It allows students to experience the entire process of planning, designing, and producing works that society needs, on their own. So it’s a comprehensive design curriculum that helps students improve teamwork, leadership, creativity, and practical skills. With the support fund, students can get support with the fees that they put into when making a work.

Applying for Capstone Design

Who Can Apply

Chung-Ang University Seoul and Anseong Campus 3rd or 4th year students who are taking ‘Comprehensive Design’ or ‘Capstone Design’ classes can receive the support fund. Those classes are currently being conducted in major classes. Among the majors available, are: Digital Imaging, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Advertising and PR, Media and Communication, Theatre and Film Design, Computer Science and Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Students not majoring in those but interested in the comprehensive design programs, can participate in those classes and receive the support fund. One person alone isn’t eligible for the support fund, only a team with two or more members can receive it. Moreover, only students who have submitted both the Capstone Design project application and the result report are eligible to apply.

Supportable Categories

There are five main supportable categories. Those are material, printing, exhibition visit, survey, and conference fee. Students who used certain categories included in the supportable ones can receive the support fund if they get approval through their submitted documents. For example, in printing fee, there are copying fees, and poster and panel making fees. For its evidential documents, card receipt and transaction statements are needed. In exhibition visit fee, there is exhibition ticket fee. In addition, for its evidential documents, there are card receipts, original exhibition tickets, and exhibition attendance reports. In survey fee, there are survey printing fees and souvenirs. For evidential documents, card receipts, transaction statements, survey papers, and survey result reports are essential.

How It’s Supported

To give some examples, the practice fee is supported only within the budget amount of the actual expenses that are approved for submission. This progresses in a pre-expenditure and post-payment way. Only the Chung-Ang University Industry Academic Cooperation Foundation receipt or receipt from the research expense card of the LINC+ Business Operation Team is approved. In addition, to issue a cash receipt, students have to use the business number of the Chung-Ang University Industry Academic Cooperation Foundation. For material fees, students can use the research expense card of the LINC+ Business Operation Team. To make overseas payments with the card, students have to submit a receipt and the card company’s usage statement showing the won-exchange rate. However, some payment receipts can’t be accepted, such as personal credit card or check card, personal cash, account transfer, simplified, and NAVER Pay purchase receipts.

Essential Documents for Submission

To divide the required documents by period, first, there’s a project applying period. During this period, students must submit a project application form. At the end of the project period, students must submit a project result report, transaction statement, receipt, and Capstone Design satisfaction survey. At the external lecturer’s lecture period, submission of account transfer payment agreement form, lecturer’s resume, identification card, bankbook copy, lecture plan, and lecture materials are also required. At the settlement period, document submission is not mandatory. Students can submit a support fund payment application form, which can be filled out according to the details of use. In addition, if a cash receipt is submitted, a copy of the team leader’s bankbook must be submitted as well.

Operating Procedure

First, a student should apply for a Capstone Design course, meet the professor, form a team, and then dig up a subject. Later, submission of the Capstone Design application form is needed. After the submission, the LINC+ Business Promotion Team approves the suitability of the Capstone Design application. Through the mentoring with an external lecturer, the team who applied for the support fund should complete the project and submit a result report. Then, a professor will evaluate it. After that, the LINC+ Business Promotion Team will pay the support funds, and have time to investigate the prior technology and evaluate the business feasibility.

Currently, Chung-Ang University provides a Capstone Design support fund for students. However, only students who meet the requirements can apply. And submission of the necessary documents is essential to receive the support fund. If students keep this in mind, they can get great help in producing assignments with the support fund.
