Students of all grades may have concerns about their careers. For these students, there is a system run by Chung-Ang University. Have you heard of the Rainbow system, the student self-development integrated management system, which is managed by the Da Vinci Human Resources Development Center? This system aims to help students and graduates of Chung-Ang University decide their own careers and improve their competitiveness in employment. ‘R’ stands for ‘Ready for career’, ‘A’ stands for ‘Aim the goal’, ‘I’ stands for ‘Improve competency’, ‘N’ stands for ‘Network’, ‘B’ stands for ‘Beneficial information’, ‘O’ stands for ‘Obtain advice’, and ‘W’ stands for ‘With friends.’ As the word implies, will this system really provide useful programs for students to get a job?

1. Set Your Career

a. What Is Your Vision?

The first step for setting a career is to decide your values. After that, establish a goal that meets the values and then make a detailed plan to achieve that goal. Through the Rainbow system homepage (rainbow.cau.ac.kr), students can post their values, goals, and plans, and share them with other students. They can also leave opinions on other students’ posts through the vision sharing board. Everyone thinks differently, so students can read various students’ thoughts and values. For example, one person’s values could be ‘always live happily’ and someone else’s could be ‘let’s face it and try,’ yet another person’s goal could be ‘an announcer who comforts people’ and a fourth person’s could be ‘a programmer who is good at collaboration.’

b. What Kind of Jobs Are There?

Before choosing a career path, being aware of information about duty, industry, and professional/special professions is essential. This information can be found on the homepage. It gives guidance on various duties such as planning, finance, and sales, and performance tasks for each duty. Also, it introduces diverse industries such as public enterprise and education/research institutions, and all kinds of jobs in different fields including media, law, and medical treatment. Furthermore, students can check the prospect of a particular job based on the information like working environment and employment status which are provided by the Ministry of Employment and Labor. In addition, career information for each major, career guides, and career lists are provided.

2. Develop Your Capabilities

Students can easily know about curricular and extracurricular programs related to the competencies they want to develop through the homepage. Various competencies such as promotive/executive ability, creativity, and problem-solving skills are presented, and programs suitable for each competency are recommended. For example, if a student wants to develop analytical thinking, courses such as Introduction to Psychology and General Physics Experiment, and extracurricular courses such as Job School Program and Reading Community are recommended. More than that, students can apply for external activities that are of interest to them or that may help them. A lot of programs such as mentoring, contest, and volunteering are posted.

3. Know About Yourself

Knowing about oneself is also important. Through the homepage, students can be diagnosed with a total of five Da Vinci core competencies, which are communication, challenge, creativity, convergence, and trust. Students can also find and solve problems related to their studies by diagnosing their learning strategies. This will help them find the right learning strategy for them. After conducting the learning strategy test, they can book counseling and meet with a consultant if their reservation is approved. Moreover, nine types of vocational aptitude and personality tests, including the Holland aptitude test and NEO personality test, are provided. Each test has different characteristics, contents, and times required.

4. Let’s Get Ready to Find a Job

Guides for successful employment at major companies are posted on the homepage’s successful employment manual board. Those are the summary of the most fundamental key information in preparing an application for particular companies. In addition, part-time and full-time job openings are posted, so students can apply right away. Furthermore, the latest recruitment information linked with Korea’s largest recruitment sites such as Saramin, Jobkorea, and Worknet is provided. Job postings registered directly by Chung-Ang University are also uploaded, so students can obtain diverse employment information. They can get information about briefing sessions, counseling sessions, and interviews, too.

Students can also find data that will actually help them get a job. For example, there are data like analysis data by company, self-introduction guidebook, successful applicants’ specification, and interview reviews. Moreover, job studies can be done and preparation for NCS recruitment is possible. Information on clubs in Chung-Ang University and information on eight examination classes, including CPA, press, and law school, can be obtained. The introduction page of each examination class provides detailed explanations on examination preparation methods, examination guidelines, and career path after passing the examination.

The Rainbow system shares various information so that students can understand themselves and easily choose their career paths. By setting career directions, they can complete their own portfolios. Also, if they are worried about employment, they can consult with who can help. Students who are concerned about their career paths will be able to relieve their anxieties through the system.
