Let's explore the <Alice Dalton Brown, Where the Light Breathes> exhibition with CAH.

The Harmony of Natural and Artificial Objects

Alice Dalton Brown has drawn for a long time, beautifully harmonized pictures of light and shadows, studying how light casts shadows on buildings. The exhibition consists of four sections: 1. "Light and Shadow", 2. "Invitation to the House", 3. "Summer Breeze", and 4. "Impression of Italy". The second part, "Invitation to Home," deals with Alice's work on a house that she devoted herself to from 1979 to the late 1990s. She found a porch and door, or a space that connects the outside and the inside, and captured it in a picture. Alice painted the Westfield mansion in various compositions. "Westfield with Landscape" is a combination of natural scenery and Westfield mansion, making the painting more nature-friendly and beautiful. The white mansion and mint curtain exudes cool feeling, and the shadow from the sunlight makes the painting more three-dimensional and realistic. The pillars of the mansion are so antique and elaborate that it looks like a sophisticated and neat house. “Summer Retreat” is impressive in that it contrasts the well-trimmed white houses with the lush trees next to them. The leaves, which are detailed in the yellow sunlight and light that seep through the neatly constructed and combined houses, are very detailed and realistic. It naturally blends with the artificial house and the green natural scenery, not leaving disparate feelings at all.

Summer Breeze

The main section of the exhibition is "Summer Breeze." This is the third of the four sections, painted by Alice Dalton Brown from the 2000s. In the summer wind section, there are many works that take the composition to the inside of the house looking out. "In the Quiet Moment," one of her first three new works to be unveiled in the exhibition, you may feel as if you are traveling near a lake. The painting contains white clouds, silver lakes shining in the sun, and clear white curtains. Also, the shadow that gently falls under the curtain due to sunlight makes the painting look more realistic. You can feel like you are looking at the lake in the warm sun with the windows open on a summer day. This is the moment when the title of the exhibition, "Where the Light Breaths," comes to life. It is a fantastic painting that clearly reveals her passion for art as a painter who has studied light and shadow for decades. Also, the perfect harmony between light and shadow creates admiration because the painting is so elaborate that it is no exaggeration to say it is a photograph. In addition to "In the Quiet Moment," there are many new pictures such as "Expectation," "Lifting Light," and the pictures of the wind blowing on summer days, that you can enjoy as well.
