What do you think is the purpose of Christmas? Is it the gifts that Santa Claus leaves under the Christmas tree on the night of December 24th? We all have beautiful memories of doing good deeds for a year to receive Santa's gifts when we were young and trying to be good children. However, the biggest secret of Santa is that he does not really exist! Everyone realizes that Santa isn’t real at different times, but in the end, they all find out that Santa was simply our beloved parents. Some people will be greatly disappointed when they find out, while others will understand it in a cool way. Therefore, is it the right thing to do to get children to believe in Santa for as long as possible? Let's hear from CAH!

Until what age did you believe in Santa? In my case, I think I believed in Santa for quite a long time, until I found out that my parents were preparing gifts every Christmas. Every Christmas season, many children think of the gifts they have been wanting for a while, and their hearts pound with excitement. In common Christmas carols, Santa Claus gives gifts only to children who do good deeds. This stimulates the children's hearts and creates a pure desire to be a good child in order to receive a gift. This is also connected to children's concentric and emotional development. I think it is right to let children believe in Santa for as long as possible for the following reasons.

Children often hear stories about Christmas and Santa Claus in the media. In the Christmas-themed films <Elf (2003)> and <Polar Express (2004)>, Santa Claus appears in a benevolent form as he pulls a cart full of gifts with Rudolph. As such, one of the most deeply connected beliefs and promises with Santa Claus is that ‘you must do a lot of good deeds throughout the year to receive the gifts you want.’ That is why children who believe in Santa Claus reflect on their actions as Christmas approaches or reflect on what they thought was wrong. Some may criticize this saying, “It is not right for children to do good deeds only for gifts.” However, isn't it too harsh to teach the children that only good deeds, without expecting anything in return, is the right thing to do? They are the ones who should be protected, and who should enjoy and taste the most joy in society. Moreover, linking the gift to a good deed can be a very complex concept to comprehend. Rather, Santa's presence can be a good practice for children to learn that good actions lead to good results.

Also, children can keep their innocence by believing in Santa Claus. Childhood is literally the pure heart of a child. In fact, it is directly related to the emotional development of children. Emotional development is determined by individual differences in personality during childhood, and these differences appear in various ways depending on parenting attitudes, social environments, and the cultural characteristics surrounding the child. Indeed, according to creativity researcher Kaufman. For children aged 4-7, creativity and emotional development are important. You can learn the emotions of natural joy through the childhood belief in Christmas and learn to express your feelings with appropriate words and actions while talking about it with your parents or friends. In addition, the gift thought to be given by Santa Claus is directly related to the rewards for good deeds, and through this, it creates emotions of joy and reward, and the child can have rich and stable emotions. After all, through all these processes, children can feel warm human affection. Recently, it is said that parents are paying money to provide emotional education so that children can have many experiences to increase their emotional intelligence. Christmas can be an opportunity to naturally nurture childhood, to increase emotional intelligence without paying anything.

I think that the most important thing is the earnest and pure heart that children have as they believe in the existence of Santa Claus rather than the meaning of Christmas and Santa Claus is particularly special. Children try to be good people at an early age by looking back on their own behavior through appropriate motivation. Through this, the development of positive emotions naturally occurs, and the emotions of joy are stably established in the mind. That's why I think it's better to let young children believe that Santa exists.
