The last month of the year has come. Around this time last year, many people must have hoped that the situation would improve in 2021 as they left the year when the unexpected global pandemic began. However, 2021 was still a year when restrictions were imposed on many areas of our lives. This abnormal life makes us eager to return to our old routines. Is it because of the chances of mass infection if a large number of students from all over the country gather? Universities had no choice but to apply strict social distancing from the beginning of the pandemic until now. The first non-face-to-face semester, which was considered a temporary measure, has now continued for four semesters. Of course, more and more students are now saying that non-face-to-face semesters are better due to the convenience, the absolute evaluation grading system, and other reasons. However, it is regrettable that the physical distance have made a barrier that reduces the opportunity of bonding and communicating with our peers. Sometimes when I turn on my laptop at home and listen to lectures, I often miss the noisy atmosphere of the classroom. In addition to these personal regrets, there remains a great regret that there has been a barrier to communication between student organizations and students. Last month, the Gender Equality Committee, an organization under the Student Council, was suddenly abolished without any open discourse. Even if the student council was not aware of the necessity of the Gender Equality Committee, they should have tried to understand the necessity through communication with students. Of course, it is true that I was not usually interested in the Gender Equality Committee. However, it was bitter that the organization that pursued the universal value of gender equality of students was abolished, and that we had no choice but to become indifferent to how the school was running unless we came to campus. In 2022, we, who were separated, are more likely to gather in one space. I hope that we will gather together and make a fuss on campus again. And I hope that there will be an active place for communication where we can be more interested in each other and be better able to understand each other.
